I looked into the maintenance list thats on the forum, but don' t know which one to get

- If you have no or mild mods get - NGK BPR6ES or Autolite 63 Copper
- If you have moderate mods get - NGK BPR7ES or Autolite 62 Copper

What constitutes as moderate mods? Mods are listed in my profile. I plan on adding alot more mods to my gsx, so should I just go with the 7ES now? And would I be ok with those for the time being, or should I just go with the 6ES?

Thanks

damn quick replies, appreciate it alot! I need to look into the gapping, cause I have no idea when it comes to that

i would go to 8es lil hotter spark

There's no way he needs 8's. Until you're running more than stock boost you won't need to step up to 7's. Spark plugs are cheap so it's not worth running too cold a plug just because you plan to upgrade a lot later.

Stick with the 6es's for now. Make sure they are gapped right as well. I would grab the 7's once you are pushing more boost with bigger injectors etc.

You'll be good with the BPR6ES because you really don't have any mods that'll affect the spark.

I agree.

I use to run 6 but I was hitting loads of knock. Once I switch to 7s my knock decrease drastically. And this was just by switching spark pugs.
One problem that bugs me on tuners is that majority of the people don't note psi's in their mods list which is fine cause I know it changes time to time.
I think you should log first then switch to one that suits your needs. Cause my mods aren't substitute as moderate either

Thanks Ill take that into account. I just need to get them replaced quickly cause the previous owner I bought the car from didnt mention getting new plugs.

Thanks! On an other note if you just dd alot... 6 or 7's won't effect it either way! but I would suggest 6 for now. I mean it's like 9-12 bucks so it's cheap and just have as back up!
I have spare just in case I go to the track and one breaksLOL

I know it's crazy loads of knock but when I 1/4 my car with logs. I was getting 20 counts of knock. I switched to 7s and it went down to 4 counts.

NGK non-resistors gapped to factory spec would be a good choice for you. Typically each plug range is about 75-100hp increase from factory. Also, manufacturers heat ranges are not identical.

Nothing wrong with 63's - same as the '6ES plugs .. only made in the States and a bit cheaper .. and it's a common size plug for a lot of the import motors like Honda, Toyota, Nissan and Mitsu...

They wear the same as a NGK and you change them out at the same frequency.

NOW, them putrid PULSTAR plugs are definitely GARBAGE!!

NGK BPR6ES. I would go a heat range colder only with a lot of boost (20ish psi) or a larger turbo. Anything less and the 6's should work great. You can pick them up at any local auto parts store, just verify that they are the BPR6ES's. At Auto Zone they are part number 7131 (which is NGK's stock number) and are $2.49 a piece.

Every letter in the NGK part number means something. You can see the entire list here: http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/docs/tech/design_symbols_plugs.pdf. But lets use the stock BPR6ES for example:
  • B - Thread size/Hex size - B=14mm / 13/16" (20.8mm)
  • P - Construction - P = Projecting insulator type
  • R - Construction - R = Resister Type
  • 6 - Heat Range - 2 is the hottest, 11 is the coldest. DSM OEM is 6.
  • E - Thread Reach - E = 19.0mm (3/4")
  • S - Firing End Construction - S = Standard Type (2.5mm Center Electrode)

In addition to new plugs you may want to consider a new set of the NGK spark plug wires as well depending on how old yours are. The NGK part numbers are:
  • ME64 (stock #9634) for 1g 4G63's
  • ME67 (stock #8097) for 1g 4G37's
  • ME77 (stock #8100) for 2g 4G63's
  • ME83 (stock #8103) for 2g 420A's

The reason that just about everyone here preaches the wonders of NGK spark plugs and wires is because they are what were used by Diamond Star Motors on these cars from the factory, they work great, are readily available just about anywhere, are available in a wide range of options, and are very affordable.

Hope this helps!

I've posted this before .... but I also did a small cheat: I use BPR6EY plugs.. This plug is the same as the '6ES, but the electrode is grooved so the spark isn't squished between electrode and ground tang - it stays round for a hotter burn.

They do give a little more bump..
