Spark Plugs...what in the world?

Ok, I'm not new to cars. I've owned about 20 (no lie) and have worked on all of them. I know for a fact that I've changed the plugs in my 92 Talon (2.0 non-turbo). My car was blowing carbon out the tail pipe so I wanted to check the plugs. I went to remove them but for some reason I couldn't find a socket that fit. This is a first for me. I mean I have as many tools a most mechanics, but no deep well socket seemed to fit. I know you think I'm a real dork, but what size plugs are in your DSM?

Maybe the rubber plug holder inside the socket was hanging you up on the plug.
