I was thinking how come no one has fabricated a spare oil pan or reservoir for the oil from the turbo instead of drilling the stock pan. I could imagine a quart of oil would be enough for a turbo. Would it need to be filtered or can it just be changed when you change your engine oil. Would also help diagnose problems with a turbo if something goes wrong because you wont be looking in the engine pan. Anyone else think of this? I am going turbo soon, and this would be a great project for me to do if no one has done it.

The only reason you drill your oilpan is for returning oil. The oil that goes into the turbo comes out of the oil filter housing, or head if your still stock. The reason you can't use an external oil source is you would have to buy a new pump and somehow keep it in time with the stock one and it would be more effort than it is worth. Just run an oil line from your oil filter housing to the turbo then back to the pan. There is a reason everyone does this. If it isn't broke, don't fix it.
