Hello, I have looked at the other threads on here and have not found any that answer my question. My question is, can you use a non turbo oil pan and drill the hole for the turbo drain line? Im going to be helping my friend with his swap and he wanted to save some money. Thanks

Its a non turbo block with 1g turbo pistons, and yea he wants to use a stock drain line, just drill a hole for it. I just wasnt sure if it could be done.

That there is just to swap the N/T pan with a turbo one. Not actually reuse the stock N/t pan.

Ok, yep. I read the question wrong. I thought you were asking if you could swap.

I dont see why you couldn't tap the n/t pan.

But since you have to remove the pan anyway to drill and weld the bung on, why not grab a turbo oil pan? That way everything is "bolt on" and oem.

If your going to tap the pan and your running a MHI turbo, you could always use the oem drain to mark a spot on the pan.

You have some options stm has a turbo pan for under 100 bucks, if im correct, then your done, seems easy, enough or even look on ebay ,and classifieds and be done with it. Cheap enough to find turbo oil pan.

you can use the n/t oil pan with drilling the holes. but you have to put nuts on the inside of the pan i would NOT tap the oil pan you might get one thread with the thickness of the oil pan

1g NT and Turbo oil pans are interchangeable.

Since you are using a NT oil pan I would go as far as have a bung welded to the oil pan as an option(10AN or 12AN depending on you turbo). the NT oil pan does not have the provision for a oil return line so its easy enough to just weld a bung there. Also with the bung set up you don't need those pesky bolts and washers to go along with it.

Also, rockauto.com is a supporting vendor with oil pans for us. They are reasonably priced and both NT and turbo versions are available.
