some questions

i just got a used engine put in to replace my seized engine, and it looks really bad but runs really good. the heatsheild is rusted, but im confused on what it actually does..soemone explain? because i dont think its shielding the heat too good cuz its getting real hot...

another thing is if i wanna sand and polish it, can I do it while it is in there with the engine cold or do I have to take it out?

heatshield is fine,it controls under-hood temp and for saftey of course.you can paint it in the car but its going to look like crap again in no time,no paint will with-stand that kind of heat(exhaust temps can reach 1300 degrees)

you can buy a new shiny heat shield from a vendor like machv, or i think they also sell black ones. sanding it and painting it wont last long.

Some people run with out them completely, others say they would never do that. I didnt have one on my gst for 2 years and it never did anything to the paint on my hood so who knows.
