I have a 96 talon AWD with 110k miles on it. Pretty soon I will have every bolt on done to the car with the stock turbo. With the exception of injectors and things like that. With all the problems that DSM's have, will I have to really have to worry about mine? I do all the regular mantience and do all the simple repairs. Do people really just blow the quality of the dsm build quality out of proportion? I don't want to be stuck with a car that will just drain my wallet. I do not plan on putting a 2600 clutch in, or dropping in a giant turbo (sadly) in it anytime soon (money owns me).

Also, how much coolant do you normally put in? How much water?

With modifications comes increased power. With increased power comes more abuse and wear on engine parts. That's probably a good reason why things break so much on DSMs. They are also anywhere from 5-15 years old too. With what people spend on mods, the maintenance part is sometimes forgotten and can bite people in the butt.

Fill up your coolant reservoir tank up to the mark. I just use a 50/50 mixture with distilled water. If it gets super cold a lot (like -30*) where you are, you can use more antifreeze but usually 50/50 is good enough.

I agree...most of the people on this site are driving cars that are putting out much more power than was originally intended for the original parts. I think people would have far less problems if they kept it stock and kept the motor in normal operating ranges.

It seems to get a little chilly where you are..Easy way for the coolant, and the way I have done it for years here. If empty, pour all of the bottle of 100% coolant, and fill the rest with water. It also wont hurt after you have done that to use pure water in the reservoir. Stay on top of your belts and fluids.. Thats the most important things. Mod at your own pace from there. ;)

1 gallon antifreeze and the rest distilled water from the grocery store will work just fine for you. In the summertime, 30% antifreeze will give you the best cooling. Distilled water gives the antifreeze a bit easier an area to dillute itself in.

defiant is right on there.................distilled water has alot of benefits, one of the most important is that fact that it doesn't have the chemicals and minerals in it like tap water, that stuff tends to start plugging radiators in time..........hotwheels of turborides
