Hey all,

Well, my TD05 project is in worx and I need some info on the EVO 16G turbo:

How would this turbo do with 1.5L pushing it? Too laggy?

Boost creep. Will this turbo creep? What do I need to do to eliminate creep, I only wanna do this install once. ;) I will have fully ported manifolds and o2 dumps with 3" exhaust.

What is a common boost pressure run on pump gas with these? I run 18psi on my 13Gs and was wondering if it is feasible to run more with the 16G class turbo?

Where is the best price on these? Think they'll give me a discount on 2? :)

Thanks for the help!

Gabe

Gabe, definately a better question for www.3si.org but:

Best price, check with vr4me on 3si for the best deal, PM him.

Weedman ran twin 16Gs on 93 octane at 17psi. Don't forget, you don't need to boost more on bigger turbos to ran with effective power. The twin setup in the Stealth will have them pushing that car extremely fast.

Spool should hit full by 4100 I believe. Creep is more emminent running with the internal flapper rather than externally so you should be okay.

Don't forget you NEED MORE fuel system upgrades than with the 13Gs to run effectively.

Thanks dude. Yeah I would post on 3si but nobody is really running these. The very few that have done TD05s are running 14bs. I forgot about VR4me, definetly contact him soon.

Don't the evo16G come with an internal flapper? Would creep still be there, even with the o2 dumps?

More fuel, yes definetly. Right now I am running a Walbro 255 pump with 550cc injectors but might get a FPR and some 660ccs.

I cant speak first hand, but i've researched this pretty well. As i am considering this 16g. Everyone who had serious creep issues usually solved it by getting the flapper mod, and have it ported to b'jesus and back. Also the manifold needs to be ported on dsms if there is creep. If you have the dump that means you have aftermarket o2 housing then (i have no idea on vr4's or w/e)im guessing,? Which is also needed. I think this is all...i've heard ebc's control creep better than mbc...but this seems more like its jsut covering up the problem to me.

So it would be a worthwhile investment to get the flapper mod then? I can do the porting of the turbos myself and the aftermarket o2 housings with dumps should provide sufficient flow I would think. If I can get 18psi on 91 octane on 13Gs in this summer heat I would think that with the more efficient 16G I should be able to get somewhere in the 20s hopefully.

gabe,
i'd definately be scared to be running 20+ psi on only 91 octane. but thats all in the tuning :thumb:

as far as creep goes with the evo 3, i had boost creep with the SBR ported evo 3 16g WITH flapper. I took this into my own hands and took a die grinder to her. smoothed out the steps on the wastegate side, enlarged the wastegate a little more, gasketmatched the exhaust side. I also took the time to port my manifold [ i know this doesn't apply to the 3s ] . now i have no creep and hit a solid 16.5 psi.

with o2 dumps, 3" exhaust, and ported everything; i doubt you'll have an issue with creep.

i give two huge thumbs up to getting the 34mm flapper mod :thumb: :thumb:

Flawed thinking Gabe, with those turbos pushing WAY more CFM you don't need to run more boost to make more power. They will be effiecient in the teens and less stress on the engine. Evo16G pushes around 550cfm per turbo, a 13G is in the 200s I believe. BIG difference.

blcknspo0ln,

Thanks for sharing your experience with the EVO III 16G and creep issues; I will definetly invest in the flapper mod and take my time to port everything. I noticed SBR has the best prices on products, but forced performance has better customer service? I'll have to check into that.

VRMAN,

Holy crap, I didn't think about that. I should have a ton of power at just 15psi then if these turbos will be flowing more than 2x the CFM!! OMG

Another question. A common mod on the 3/S platform is to upgrade to 1G DSM intercoolers from our puny stockers. I have done this mod and was wondering if I will be ok for now until I can get $$$$ for a FMIC. Also, I do have a pretty decent water injection system setup to turn on at 12psi. :thumb:

Gabe, stock ICs have cooled cars fine into the 11s. With the DSM cores you should be alright, no problem.

vr4me for the 16Gs, no doubt.
