so after all this time, my 96 GS-T is just about road ready..... im waiting on my windshield, rims/tires.... all supposed to come this weekend... but there's one big stipulation..... the T25 that's on the car, it sat with the rest of the car for 1 1/2 years in a field before i got it.... there is some play in all directions but it does spool quite nice (for what it is) but there's no way its long for this world 104xxx on it, i don't want to replace that T-turd with another one, im just looking for the best choice in a mild upgrade that will carry the car pretty far until i need a bigger one. so riddle me this..... if i were to purchase a small 16,evo3,big 16g what's the difference between them? anything really worth getting bent out of shape about? i do know that a 16g install kit is a great thing to add to the mix but i cant quite get the oiling and fuel parts down to a science for this particular car.... were i am we have a shell, so optimax(Vpower) 93 is the only thing this car ingests, i want reliability as well as speed, my friend's DSM... oh my lord.... its a nightmare, everyday it's always something, but he also bought the car from an idiot and the car is pretty much "jerry rigged with SOME, nice parts" and i want to one up that. what im really asking here, is if i oil the 16g from the OFH, it will need a restrictor, are there any real other issues with it? and isn't the restrictor basically the fitting for the SS line that screws into the turbo in place of the factory oil line? and with fuel..... il be grabbing a real MHI 16g, (not sure which one because i cant really seem to find a good comparison) and il be using the factory BSC with the insert removed, for quite some time for a little more than stock boost, will i need injectors? or a fuel pump? and finally, would this be worth the time and money(as an upgrade)? il be on stock SMIC, hard IC piping, hacked MAF,3" from the o2 back, and an intake/K&N filter.....

i was about to answer one of your questions, but then you had another question, and another question and another question that i just think if i answer all of them at once it will be hard to understand but.

you cant spell reliable with dsm, its a high maintenance car no matter what, if you have a turbo with play in all directions but still runs good is weird enough to me but i dont think it will last that long, and i recommend the big 16g, good boost and fast spooling.

no, i think its a common mistake alot of people do by just boosting as much as they can, without any other supporting mods, let me tell you that to do to be safe and smart; you should consider getting all supporting mods first before you think about getting another turbo, you will be amazed on how much power you gain in the process. then your turbo will spool good and your engine will screetch like theres no tomorrow (knowing you still will be able to use it tomorrow LOL).

also you might want to consider checking out the build/upgrade paths for your car:

Tech Guide: 2G 4G63t Upgrades - DSMtuners

this website is pretty much built up to where posting any new threads is almost unessesary (unless its a unique 1 of a kind problem, or something that hasnt been clarified in the past,

but nonetheless, i hope i help you atleast in pointing you in the right direction ;)

if i were to purchase a small 16,evo3,big 16g what's the difference between them?
Compressor wheel spec, spool time, and airflow characteristic.

i do know that a 16g install kit is a great thing to add to the mix
Actually no. You only need a 1G oil supply line, two banjo bolts, and a j-pipe for the compressor outlet. Everything else can be modified for use from your current T25.

if i oil the 16g from the OFH, it will need a restrictor,
Considering the OEM TD05H turbos were fed from the head with a restrictor built into the banjo end of the line at the turbo, the yes.

and isn't the restrictor basically the fitting for the SS line that screws into the turbo in place of the factory oil line?
A restrictor fits into the line, and yes....it restricts.

will i need injectors? or a fuel pump?
Duh. :ohdamn:

It's not like the car won't run without larger injectors, but if you're running over stock boost without logging then you're asking for trouble. You'll never make any serious power with a 16G on the stock fuel system.

gotcha thanks for the input, il get a 190 and AFPR on the way asap, will the stock fuel lines be ok with a bigger pump? i dont want to the car to turn into a fire ball. some 560's with the pump and then it should be smooth sailing correct? il get a way to log on the car asap, im just in the transition on going from my honda to this car, im just looking to make decent power with the car, without having to tear it apart every week. i wont be cranking boost up, il just be using the factory BCS with the insert removed, on the t25 now boost guage reads 13 steady and i dont plan on running more than that, but il get a J pipe, oil feed line, evo injectors, 190lph and a AFPR if i need it on the way, the car wont run too rich without a SAFC will it? 13 -14 lbs max with that fuel system?

+gaskets +ofh plug also make sure jpipe has boost nipple.
Just some things I didnt add in when I first considered the upgrade.

And then you have your 16g boost creep which has to be solved through multiple ideas which the op can read up on by himself.
And honestly, I now realize why people hated my newb questions when I started, they are asked 4 times everyday. Instead of a newb section, lurkers should use be forced to use the search button 30 times before they can post :)

i did look into.... i just wanted to be 100% sure on everything, there's a difference between reading about one person's car, and assuming something on your own, and asking questions specific to your issue/concern. if this forum is here to help people, then you know what your getting into when you sign up as the help. there will be people that ask the same question that was asked 30 times before, but... instead of whining and crying about the same question asked again and again, maybe take a step back and realize that everyone is different, so everyone learns slightly different, you can't say that every post about 16g's on a 2G dsm are all exactly the same, i didn't ask about it to be treated like a child, i just wanted good information, excuse me for not know everything about Mitsubishi like yourself, i know my questions may seem dumb to you, that's like the 20 customers i deal with a week about they're type 1 VW, they don't know jack about it, and I've dealt with them for the last 5 years, of course what seems like common sense to me sounds like rocket science to them, general mechanical ability/skill only gets you so far, it'd be like taking a GM tech and putting him on rotarys. just saying.

but none the less, thanks for the info. :D

Just some things I didnt add in when I first considered the upgrade.

I used JB weld and filled the adapter on the OFH line. Works great as a plug.
Instead of a j-pipe gasket, I use black RTV. I did however buy new manifold-turbo and turbo-o2 housing gaskets; along with a o2-housing-downpipe one while I was there.

My 16g "install kit" was the 1g oil feed, 3 gaskets, a j-pipe, a dremel, rtv, and some jb weld. :sneaky:

gotcha, gonna run all the prices again, im not sure on the ECU in my GS-T, Eprom's will have a blue label on the outside of it right? i was told you dont have to have Eprom for a SAFC only for DSM link, is this right?

I would open the case and look for the eprom chip. You'll have to open it anyways to get the DSMLink chip in.

And correct, you don't need an eprom to use a SAFC. It just splices inline and modifies the airflow signal.

you really don't need any more than a small 16g unless you're planning on upgrading injectors but a walbro pump and an Aeromotive FPR as well as something like the apexi safc II would work fine with a small 16g and stock injectors and you could run 16psi no problem without even getting a front mount ic

well im looking at what it would take to have the 16g vs the FP big t28. in the begging i was under the impression that a 16g on stock boost would be fine with the pretty much stock car, im not looking to up the boost, i just figured that since the 16g flows better VE is improved by more air at the same pressure, i thought that the stock ECU would adjust to that, im just worried that the SAFC wont hold up to being a DD, bone chilling winter and extreme heat from summer, i know temp extremes can work on electronics, also if the battery is disconnected, does the SAFC lose the memory of the settings you put in it? i just don't want to run into problems down the road LOL.

i'l grab the ECU today while i have the car inside and see if it's Eprom.

Every car is different, but I would be leery of pushing 16psi on a stock fuel system. 16psi on a 16g will flow a lot more air than the T25 does at 16psi. Can it be done? Yes. Is it widely recommended? No.

If that is the route you want to take make sure you have some logging capabilities and monitor the hell out of your IDCs and knock.
