1g cruise control guru's - some info please

Anyone that has any experience with 1g cruise control, I could use some of your findings. NOTE* Please, in this thread, I do not need anyone telling me that I should just rip it out because it will save me weight, and that i don't need it, and I should also rip out the power steering, etc., I don't need it, it's been a long day. Please and thank you.

So, the issues I have had are one day the cruise control works great, and the next, it doesn't. The on/off indicator on the steering column will still turn orange as to indicate it is on, but when the outermost set button is pushed, there is no indication on the dash, (I believe it was a green CRUISE light), does not work, and the cruise obviously doesn't work.

What I am in need of from anyone that has serviced the system is a process of elimination, as to where would be the best place to start, any know symptoms from the 1990 year, should I just replace the motor out in the engine bay (remember in the 1990 year it mounts over the transmission), or any other information I might need along the way. I am finishing up my best shot at a restoration to this car that I will ever mount, and this will be one of the last loose ends I will need to take care of. Any information will help.

As a note, all other electronics in the car work fine, and are all factory.

The first thing I would check is the vacuum line. If its the original line its probably brittle and could be cracked. Sometimes its the simple stuff. When I first got my 1g the cruise didn't work and that was the problem. Hope this helps.

1990 1G units (like mine) had no vacuum motors to control the units as with some cruise controls being that the motor box laid next to the right shock tower and over the transission.

1991 and following years, the units were mounted on the firewall. For 1990 units, it was all electronic controlled.

The kill switch for the clutch can be slightly out of adjustment. It's an easy fix.

Mine would do the same as well and if I put my foot under the clutch pedal and lift up while I pressed the button on the end the wiper control, the cruise would then engage and the "Cruise" light would come on.

This all meaning that the kill switch needed adjusting.

^^^That actually sounds like it may do the job, as I just am now doing the "1g clutch pedal fix", (welding the arm) and seeings how the pedal was so sloppy before, this may take care of it with a little more adjusting of the switch itself now that the pedal should come all the way back up now.

Hopefully this will take care of it.
