Solid Lash Adjusters [Merged 9-8] lifters valve

have you ever adjusted valves on a shim and bucket style of valve train???, i do it everyday and i dont know why you would even want to consider adding that much complexity and grief/expense to a 4g63. those setups are normally used on high revving, high performance engines. so i would say its just not a real good idea (if its not broke don't fix it) :dsm:

I think on a high horsepower vehicle you could benefit from a lifter like this, or if you plan on revving over 8500 rpm's.Every vehicle is different and I beleive that being able to make adjustments would help you fine tune a vehicle.Yean maybe it's not for everyone to use, but if you have a race application vehicle why not? Take for instance a Toyota Supra you have to use shims when building a head on that vehicle and it makes a big difference with the performance you get out of it.

Has anyone experimented with solid lifters yet, i know there are some good gains with them and if set up correctly very little tappet noise. or is there anywhere that you can purchase them as a kit?

Stay away from em. They spit the rollers out.

I would only recommend them if you are doing a racing ONLY application. They let the rpm's go higher than a standard hydraulic lifter but you have to adjust them VERY frequently which make them not good for the street

Solid lifters They say they stay adjusted, but from what people say they need constant adjustment. Either way, I still only reccomend them for high end revs or drag racing ( which go hand in hand usually).
If lifter tick is your concern, go with 3rd gen lifters. They're quieter.

If you're working on some Holden pushrod boat anchor. Until many, many more RPMs than any DSM motor you'll ever be pressing the throttle cable to, the stock valvetrain is robust, efficient, inexpensive and capable.
I don't even want to think about doing solid tappet clearances in a 24-valve alloy head. It sucked more than enough on an Alfa with half that.

We don't have holden pushrod boat anchors in Australia or better to say is all the anchor ropes in Aust' HAVE FORD MOTORS ON THEM ALREADY ( THEY SINK FASTER!!) LOL.
Must be just me but i will give it ago with the solids on the engine dyno and then swap them over and see what the difference is! I have two sets of cams ready to go 1set in solid profile 262/272 and another set in hydraulic, I will post a full history of the build on my site soon as it is done but don't hold your breath i expect it to be a month away my job has me flying all over Aust' week to week.

I have been around chevys forever so I know what the benefits of having either hyd or solid. I don't know however as to what point the 4g63 hyd lifters become a hinderance, meaning if they have the same "pump up" problem as they do on chevys.

When I was racing mini stocks the 2.3 mustang guys where taking out the internals of the hyd. lifters and filling them with lead (to make them solid), then they shim stock or grind the bottom to set lash. I realize thats not really feasable on a 4g63 but thats what they do for other engines out there.

I dont know about solids in 4g63s but in hondas they have solid lifters and they have to be adjusted like every 30,000 miles. Im going to try a set on my car this summer just to see if i like it if they last i think there could be some nice gains.

Just need to know if can turn 10k rpms on revised 3G lifters.

thanks

does any body run solid lifters and if so what kind of valve clearance do you run

What if I welded the lifters so they can't depress anymore so I could have them solid?

You need some adjustment with solids. Look at the pics on page 1 of this thread, the "plunger" and the inside of the body is threaded.
