Hello again friends. My build is moving along pretty well. Im waiting on a few parts and now im in the thinking process of my car. Now when i bought it the sell gave me three ecus with it. Two were stock and one was socketed and programed. He said that he had a company do the flashing of the chip and that the company is out of business now. I would just toss that ecu in and run with it but its set up for a much more wild build then i currently have, so my question is. Without using something like dsmlink, what could i use to read the chip thats in there and make adjustments and such? I found this website, First Generation DSM EPROM Editing, with some useful information on hex values.

Please and thanks

I don't think you know what you are getting yourself into, but props for it. First eprom chips are coded. You are going to first need to learn the coding for the chip. You are going to need a decipher/program to read the code. If you want to change the chip, you are going to have to learn how to program the chip. I am sure there is software online for this.

Here's a website that will get you started if you are determined to read the chip, they also have options for how to burnt he eprom chip (hardware and software).

EPROM Programmer Transtronics, Inc.

I know you said "without using something like link", but link is golden to be honest with our cars. They give us almost every standalone option and is super user friendly. Do yourself and a car a favor and get link, you wont regret it.

Well I am by no means dead set on it, ha! I was just hoping for something fairly inexpensive that would utilize what came with the car. I mean if it isnt ment to be then move on to something that is, dsmlin. From what im reading tho the dsmlink still needs a socketed ecu so i can still use that. Im sure I can atleast try the stock computer and see what i get. The link price i honestly think is the only reason i dont have one yet.

Depending on your application, the V3lite might be what you want. Our supporting vendors give great deals on packages.

as far as your ecu that's socket, yes you will most likely use that one. You need to have it socket, just send it out to ECMtuning, they will inspect it and install the socket for a fee.

I got ya, I dont have to worry about socketing. One of the three came with it socketed and a burnt chip already. The other is a stock for a 91 Tsi and then a 92 Tsi AWD.
