so who doesnt have crank walk?

i see alot of posts from people that has or had crank walk. i am in the market for a car and am avoiding a 2nd gen turbo for im convinced that if i do get a 2gen dsm, it will cw. from what i have read, it seems like crank walk is a "when is it going to happen" thing rather than a will it happen... am i wrong? maybe all you guys that have had your car for a long time ( and not have had crank walk) could post, what kind of driving you do and how many miles you have driven? later.

I have 85k miles on my 2nd gen and run a ACT 2600 clutch if that has any effect. I have not crankwalked myself. I saw a post earlier about crankwalk and it posted % of crankwalk cases per year. I cant seem to find it right now. On average though it seemed like maybe 15-20% of the 2nd gen motors have sufferered crankwalk. You hear more of about people getting crankwalk then people who dont because its not worth posting. Thats like saying yay my car can idle.....

Where did you get this notion of "it is going to happen"? In actuality, the majority of 2G Turbo owners have no signs/symptoms of CW, dont let it deter you from buying a 2G

92K here, and no signs of crankwalk. I haven't measured it, though, because it does no good for me to know, since I already own the car. If you're in the market, though, and you have the means, measure it first. There's a procedure on the VFAQ, but I doubt anybody would let you do it to their car. I'm just going to keep my fingers crossed. I don't have clutch issues, so I'll keep praying.

Someone told me that if a 2g is going to walk, then it will happen sometime around 50-60k miles or before... if a car has somewhat high miles 80-90k & up, I would think it should be fine and won't walk. I have a '97 with 117k miles, no problems whatsoever. I just drove 2300 miles on a huge roadtrip and I dragrace occasionally... with the exception of having to replace 2 sensors (cam timing and engine coolant temp) it has been absolutely reliable since I bought it at 109k. I drive like a GS-T should be driven (fast and shifting hard) and sometimes (oops didn't shift quite fast enough) venture into the redline every now and then. The engine still runs strong and I use valvoline synthetic + lucas oil treatment + filter every 3000 miles. Go for a 2g if thats what you want CW is an overblown urban legend.

if you do blow the motor racing on nitrous, a jdm replacement is cheap enough!!!

what worries me about cw is that people fixe the bearings and the crank and then they leave it or sell it. Now if it happened once more than likely if you havn't found the problem its gonna happen again...

I wish people would just drop the damn CW Myths. CW isn't as high risk as everyone thinks, so it's definately not a reason not to get one. Any car you buy is going to have a risk of breaking somehow.

Yes, this is way way overblown. If you are truely affraid of crankwalk, I recommend buying a 98 or a 99. They seem to have the least occurances of the issue. I can almost garuntee you'll be OK with a 99. BTW, I have a 99 and no crankwalk. Get a DSM, you'll enjoy every minute of owning one!
