That isn't lifter tick... that's for sure. It's not crankwalk either. Crankwalk is a silent killer. Sure sounds rod knock-ish... that's REAL loud though.

I wouldn't be doing any driving in that until you make sure what is the source of that noise.

there is a car in my area for sale and he described it making a ticking noise along with over heating i asked for a video and this is what i got so i think i will stay away

Sounds just like mine did. Drop the oil pan and check for any up and down play on the rods. You should also check for end play on the crank.

i don't think im going to buy it, if it was lifter tick it would be one thing, but my assumption is also rod knock.

Out of curiosity, what is he asking? IF you could get it for 500-800 it would probably be worth it, but anything more than that hell no.

For yanking the motor, I don't think I would go any higher than $500.

3k asking only could get him down to 2,700..... and wouldn't budge from there, 98 gsx auto, clean interior and clean body.... but over heating and this knocking issue...

Definately too much, I can almost guarantee you will have to rebuild it to get it running good. The most I would do is $1000

HELL NO. If that's what we suspect, and it is rod knock, that motor has to come out... it's not like he broke a timing belt and the valve train needs replacement. That's just the head. What that's likely going to need will require a full pull. He's asking too much.

WOW... what is he on and can I get some of that stuff? Car in that condition is worth MAYBE 1000$ if the body in squeaky clean.

Ask him how much the shop said it would cost to repair that... it'll be close to what the car is worth... if it was running.

i told him if he ends up not selling it for a while and lowers his price to give me a call, when he said tick i was assuming lifter tick til he presented me with this video.

like the former dsmer said "crank walk" is a sielent killer. if the engine has a crank angle sensor and it crank walked the sensor wil destroy due to crank side to side play (thrust clearance) and engine will die. souds like a bad rod knock. good luck man

it's not my vehicle, there for not my concern, he seemed appalled when i offered 2k. and that was thinking it was just a over heating problem and lifter tick. well now there is rod knock and over heating . so im passing in general

Id suggest not getting it, when there is clearly noted problem such as that one, there might be more issues that might be over looked that would just cause you more of a headache later. I wouldn't risk it.
