smoking manifold and knock.

ok im gonna kill two birds with one stone here

i just upgraded my 1g with a 2g ported manifold. tightened everything back up and now it jus smokes. like it jus comes up off the manifold and looks like its coming from below it. im not sure what is wrong

also i replaced my valve cover seal and now there is a knock there. it is a knock because the tic thats always been there is still there but now there is this other knock. also wehn you turn it off it sounds like something is scraping, like a cam lob is scratching against the cover. i know there is nothing in there because i was extremely careful to make sure nothing fell in.my cams previously had scoring onthem, but nothing major. i haven't taken the valve cover off again b/c it was to hot. i loosened the valve cover bolts thinking maybe i had it to tight and it was hitting but it still knocks and makes a metal rubbing/grinding sound at the end.

any ideas guys?

Did you replace both of the manifold gaskets? As far as the knocking problem I'm not sure what could have caused that. Is it a consistent knock i.e. speeds up or slows down with the RPM's or is it just random?

yep i replaced both manifolds. and i didnt rev the engine. i was slightly afraid to, but at the idle it was rythmic

Did you remove the turbo as well when you did this? If so, is it possible that there's a slow oil leak coming from one of the lines or did you spill any oil onto the exhaust housing at all? I spilled a little bit of oil on my exhaust housing a while back and it took quite a long time for it to all burn off and stop smoking.

The manifold smoking is normal and will eventually quit. Its just oil, grease, your fingerprints, ect. burning off. Whoever ported it probably used some kind of cutting oil to do the port job and its just burning off. As for the knocking sound...take the oil cap off with the engine idling and listen to see if the noise gets louder. That should let you know if its really in the valve cover and not somewhere else. It could always just be lifter tick. Its a very common problem with our engines.

i had my buddy come out who is very knowledgeable about dsm's and he said it was jus a lifter tick, thanks for the help guys
