Im looking at a 91 talon awd turbo for sale.

"just bought a 91 eagle talon which has a new motor and trani with cat back exhaust system and boost gauge/controller. had it two days and accidently boosted it too high and blew the rings. should be about 1500 to fix completely. i payed 2200 cash for it and just want it gone so i done greave about it. car is in ok condish..not too bad for a 91. still starts and has all power, but smokes way bad." -exact quote form add.

My question is, Does that sound like the actual problem? I was talking to a friend and he said it sounds more like a bad turbo which makes sense to me if the motor is new/rebuilt because I know these engines are know to handle a lot of boost. I don't yet know too much about the car, haven't had a chance to go look at it yet so I'm just basingthis on what the add says. I'm kinda new to these types of motors too so I'd like some more input. And do you think it would really cost that much to fix it? I can do labor myself.

Thanks,
Blake.

You could try pulling off the intake piping before the turbo and see if there is any shaft play and if it spins freely. Other than that it sounds like a bigger problem to me.

MAN for $500. pick it out and part it out if nothing else! What the heck do you have to loose.:thumb:

yeah, thats what I was thinking. Even if it is a bigger problem I wouldnt mind working on it. It would be a fun project.

I'm gonna have to agree with the rest of them. It would be easier to just part it out. I've rebuilt an engine before. Its fun and all but super time consuming. And it takes longer if you don't know what your doing. I.E. me a year ago.

That really doesnt bother me though.I have a car so im set on that. This will just give me something to do and it's a good learning experience. Hopefully I'll be able to scrape some money together.

If the car isn't too far away from you, finding out whether or not the rings are gone is as simple as a compression test. Just a thought if you are up in the air on buying it.

Im going to look tomorrow. I'll take my compression tester with me. I'm pretty sure ive got one. What should it be at? I'm pretty convinced about buying it just hope I can get the money together before he sells it. Pray for me. LoL.

My friend was saying that it sounds like it broke a seal in the turbo so oil is going into exhaust. Is there an easy way to test this?

Thanks for all your input guys.
