hey all

I got a 90 eagle talon tsi AWD
rebuilt block and the head has 100k miles on it...

when i start it up, smoke starts to come out of the Breather Hose and i got oil PUFFING out of the oil dip stick tube. pissed me off when i saw this, i took it to my friends fathers auto body shop where he rebuilds motors.

he says my motors no good and i should buy a new one. im pretty close to him so he wouldnt want to screw me over.

anything i should consider? any seals in the block bad or something i should be looking at? i know this isnt much information to feed off of but its not like i could get pics up anytime soon.

thanks ahead of time

around 1k miles.
which rings do you think are bad?? i didnt rebuild the block so cant say which ones are bad. i DO hav a chilton car manual and can look up any rings you guys throw at me.

me and my old man planning on rebuilding the block our selves if we HAVE to. My old mans rebuilt V8's so he's got some knowledge but not on lil 4cyl's. Gonna have to clean out garage :rocks:

## piston rings. get a hold of a chiltons manual and check where your compression in your cylinders is supposed to be at. for 2.0L turbo engines its supposed to be around 170 to 225 psi at 250 to 400rpm.

Yeah heres the correct compression test limitations:

Compression specifications

=> 14 psi maximum difference between cylinders
1G (90-94) T/E/L 1.8L NT engine 2.0L NT engine 2.0L Turbo engine
Compression ratio 9.0:1 9.0:1 7.8:1
Standard compression 185 psi 192 psi 164 psi

2G (95-99) T/E 2.0L NT 420A engine 2.0L 4G63 Turbo engine 2.4L NT Spyder engine
Compression ratio 9.8:1 8.5:1 9.5:1
Standard compression 170-225 psi 178 psi 192 psi
Service limit 100 psi 133 psi 146 psi

Galant (89-93) SOHC 8v engine SOHC 16v engine
Compression ratio 8.5:1 9.5:1
Standard compression 178 psi 185 psi
Service limit 125 psi 139 psi

Galant (89-93) DOHC pre-91 NT engine DOHC 92+ NT engine DOHC Turbo engine

follow these instructions for a compression test...big_d

SWEEET, thanks a bunch. i actually went through the manual this morning before i went to work and found all the compression ratios. good deal posting on here though.

my old man has a compression tester. Tomorrow, we're waiting on some parts from Kragens then we're going to change the PCV Valve to hopefully stop the smoke from comming out of the Breather hose. I'll keep you posted on the oil dip stick problem though. If theres any other suggestions, let me know. I'll research and tear things apart ahahaha:D

change your PCV valve.

YO meliketoball, i havent met you in person but you paintball right? you got a friend that just got a black GSX.

and definitly, i bought one yesterday and going to hopefully change it tomorrow before work. Hopefully that'll solve some problems.

As for the rings you guys were mentioning, do you mean the piston rings?? Will that help fix the problem with the smoke comming out of the dip stick tube? Thanks again all for you continued input.

just got a brand new Compression tester and looking for new piston rings at the moment.

thanks again

i agree with everyone it is probaly the piston rings, or maybe even valve stem seals. but reading your post you dont say the engine is runnig bad or anything you just say it is smoking. Right? if that is the casue and your just using this as a daily driver i would say hold off on rebuild it and just driver her until she blows. no point of dropping the money if she is still running fine.

Yeah I paintball, I go to SCP and my friend is Erick with the black GSX. I might be @ SCP this saturday. :thumb:

Have I met you before?

she runs absolutly great, sounds great, just got smoke problems. when we give it a lil gas, she pulls preeeety nice. fun as hell, gotta admit.

I plan on racing this car, so i dont know if the current motor will be able to handle it even after fixing the problem or should i get it rebuilt/fully built. Money aint a problem ### im in no hurry. i just wait for every paycheck and add em up :D

sorry, naw we havent met. my friend Chris that drives a turbo RX-7 and kicks it with Erick. they go up to Calavaras once in a while. i looked at ericks page (on myspace...) and was lookin at his clean GSX. then i saw your and was like "damn, these guys got clean Eclipses" :thumb:

i just recognized your pics and i was like "i saw that eclipse before" :dsm:

I Hade The Same Problem And I Belive THAT Many People Have Already Said It But THE Piston Rings Are Swollen ThatS What MaKes THE Dipstick Shoot Out Mines Doing The Same Thing Right Now

real quick does how is the temp on your car.... does it run hot or anything?

i guess the temps fine. theres no actual numbers on my gauge but when i start it up, its at cold. Then when i drove it around the block twice, it built up right in between Cold and Hot and stayed there. sound good??

i just fixed a massive oil leek i had...so i did see alot of excess burning smoke  but to my suprise after changing the PCV Valve, theres still smoke comming out of the breather hose!!! :beatentodeath: took a look at it, and the breather hose is so loose, i could pull it out with ease. Gotta get the baby snug so it wont come out

heres a pic of all the massive smoke comming out.

also, when i looked at the oil today, seems to be water mixing in too...blown head gasket??
