Alright i searched and im still not sure. You guys know alot about these cars so i though i would ask you. I have a 1997 Eagle talon with the 420a. It has 160800 miles. It burns oil after the car gets warmed up. only burns it bad for like 2 min then it calms down. smoke comes out of muffler. is it the piston rings or valve stem seals. Or what is it. It is not the head gasket. Everyone keeps saying that and i know for a fact it is not. Just let me know what you think. Thanks.

Can you get pictures/video of the smoke? the colour and amount and clusters of the smoke can lead us to the right direction. video would be better because we can also hear for what could be causing the problem.

Its like greyish. It oil smoke i know that mechanic even said so

burnt oil comes out light blue but is sometimes mistaken cause of the color it gets.... also burning oil has a unique smell

well i know its the oil. your right it was kinda of blueish. its the oil though i know that for a fact

do you have any leaks? many people will tell you to do a leak down test... i however have to say try the cardboard test.

get a big piece of cardboard and place it under the engine after i decent drive (or at least the car is properly warmed up). if there's a leak somewhere you will see it in the cardboard, even if it has dried. judging the amount of the stain, the colour of the stain, and how wet it is after the car has cooled down... can tell you what exactly it is and how bad. and where the stain forms can tell you the area to look at as well.

Well i dont want to put any money in it. actually dont have money to put in it. and i dont know how to do it myself or i would.

not to be a d!ck... but how do you expect us to help you... i could say its the rings and others can say its the valve stems... so in that case its pretty much trying to fix it blind.... if you dont want to spend money on it then what do you want to do?

I do want to spend money. just dont have any. I was seeing if people had same problem as me before and seeing if they new what it was

Well you still have one option, do what nothingfiction is recommending you to, sounds like a good idea to me! It should be easier for you to find out what it is since you dont have a turbo in the way!

along with what i have said, doing a compression test isn't a bad idea at all either. and even if you have to spend 30 bucks for a tester (how much mine cost) they are more or less universal and can fit on your next car as well, so it's not money lost.

Go to autozone/oreilly's and ask them. They rent them out and you get a full refund.
It's simple, remove plug wires, remove one plug screw the tester fitting where the plug goes crank engine over for maybe 3-5 seconds, get out of vehicle look at the gauge. Put the plug back in and repeat for the 3 cylinders remaining.

also it would be alot easier if you take all of your plugs out... since it may drain your battery... also disconnect your fuel pump fuse/relay.. so it wont fill your cylinders with fuel...!!!
