Smoke

i have a 1996 eclipse gs. i is producing smoke after it idles for a while. i did a compression check and a vaccum check. it pulled 175 across the board. the vaccum is 16 on the vaccum. the engine runs great but it smokes if anyone can help me it would be great. the smoke does not smell like fuel or oil. no check engine light. serious help

In most cases, smoke at idle or on deceleration points to leaking valve stem seals or cracked valve guides. If you had it on acceleration it would point more to rings.

I would run a leakdown test on it so that you can get back to us with more information, It would also be beneficial to let us know what color the smoke is. Blue usually indicates oil burning and whitish smoke is generally coolant burnoff from a bad headgasket.

the smoke is wwhite in color but it is not coolant. it does not over heat. the oil is fuel soaked. it does not smoke all the time. it does it sometimes. thanks for the feed back

The oil is fuel-soaked? It sounds like you washed your cylinder walls with fuel and now the rings are shot... That's the only thing I can think of if it's not coolant, the car isn't overheating, and the smoke it white.

Sound like you deff could have starved your cylinder walls of oil and burnt your rings. Do you have any mods to your fuel system, cams ect?

the car runs great i does not smoke under power if you let is idle for a while it will start to smoke. but other then that i am lost. like i said it has great compression so i do not think it is the rings.

if it happens only sometimes, and only after idling for awhile (warmed up) and it is white, and your compression is acceptable, my first thought is:

water in exhaust...

you have fog or high dew points lately?

did you do the leak down test and listen for air passing through the exhaust or the intake

Descriptive titles help people decide if they want to click your thread . Your title , I would say that alot of members who could help you , has those passing it up . Present the problem in title . Be as detailed as possible . Grammar does help us to understand you exact problem . I have white smoke out of exhaust at idle . I have done a compression test . Good numbers in all cylinders . Try that .

you know when i became a member of this forum people on here actually cared about cars and not about grammar. i guess the whole place is going to sh@t. never mind about the problem i will talk to someone that actualy knows about cars and not grammar. i am not even going to explain myself. because i think the people on here are brainless anymore. they just care about there position on the forum. but that is cool what ever floats your boat. i just thought i could get some help here but i guess i was mistaken. please check my spelling and i think i forgot to capital the beginning of a sentence and i think i for got some commas and i definatly put to many ands in this sentence. but that is okay you guys can argue over it.
