Hi,
So I have a 95 talon tsi awd, with an Injen intake and 2.5 turbo back exhaust.
The car has 180k miles on it, I'm also running Mobil 1 extended performance 15w30 oil. So anywho on to the problem.
My car has been smoking at startup if I get on it hard and dont give it about a 5-10min cooldown period. It will just blow a puff of blue smoke, However if i drive below the turbo for the last 5 mins or so of my commute it doesnt blow smoke. I realize I should have a turbo timer but I didnt think it would smoke a stock turbo like that. Im not sure if it is the turbo or leaky valve guides. Is there anyway to tell without stripping the head? And if i get a turbo timere will the smoking at startup go away? thanks

Sometimes when it smokes at start-up it can be your valves not seating (bent valve ect). Cause it doesn't seat oil leaks through and sits until you start it up again. I would do a compression test and/or a leakdown test will give you a better idea

If it smokes at start up, nice blue smoke, it is usually bad valve stem seals. It pools then burns off right away when you start it.

If it blows smoke after you get into boost, then usually its bad turbo seals.

The way you can check if its the turbo or not, is by popping the intake off the compressor side of the turbo and checking for oil inside of the turbo or rubber piping. Also check for shaft play.
