according to the buschur fourms jarrod is saying that Shep runs a stage 3 block. Granted he doesnt say what rods and pistons he's using but he's running it up to 10,500 RPM and using at least 56 PSI of boost. A whole season on one motor and its still running.

So basically that means its a stage I, or even a stage II. Just different pistons and rods. Its not a stage III, no way around it. Specs are different, internals are different, the block etc is probly cryo treated for strengthening as well. Only similarity may be that they knife edge his crank, and use a stock block..

Buschur Racing

When purchasing a new block for your DSM or EVO please keep in mind that Buschur Racing has built the strongest 4G63 engines EVER. Our stage 3 block has proven time and time again to be indestructible. A Buschur Racing stage 3 shortblock is currently in John Shepherd's car which is the worlds fastest AWD DSM EVER! This engine has held up to multiple 7 and 8 sec passes, multiple HIGH RPM launches, and multiple HIGH RPM shifts since april of 2005. The engine has not been removed or freshened up since it was installed and is still running as stronger as ever.

Dude, you must not be listening. Name 1 part in the stage 3 buschur OFF THE SHELF motor thats in sheps car? Other than a stock block and crank. Its fabulous they mention that, but its just a good way to push a product. Shep doesnt use JE pistons, or crower/eagle rods, block undergoes more work than a typical stage 3 im sure. What makes the stage III different from their stage 1 other then knife edging the crank and the rod/piston choice? I guess shep uses a stage I motor in his car.

Something to consider here, but I don't think any of the regular DSM specialty shops are actually building, certainly not machining the motors they sell. You're paying them to be a customer service intermediary for your motor. I'd be surprised if they even assemble them in house.

If your paying for customer service and a guarantee of a good product, as far as I've ever seen RRE is the only shop sporting a damn neer spotless record.

Yes, actually we have our own machine shop. We do indeed build and machine our blocks and heads in house. Not flaming, but facts please, because I don't think we are the only ones. :thumb:

I have dealt with slowboy on many occasions and have never been more satisfied with customer service. I haven't dealt with FFWD simply because I havent had a need to, but when I do I'm sure they will be just as good as slowboy. I would not expect anything less than a vendor from this site, and I'm sure the moderators would not either.

Now, that being said, I think some of you are missing the bigger picture. Cost. When it comes time for a new engine in my car I'm going to get it built by whoever can get what I want cheaper. Whether it be FFWD or Slowboy does not matter to me because i know both of them have reputable machine shops.

did you ever think that the cheaper motor is cheaper for a reason? Someone who puts more time into assembling a motor, and machining it will charge more. Not always, but most of the time you get what you pay for.

This whole post is about voicing opinions and EVERY post is going to have some people that have bad things to say about everybody... nobody is perfect, i've dealt with plenty of vendors that have told me " we guarantee that the product will be there in 5 days" and then 3 weeks later it shows up. i for one hate being lied to.. i would rather hear its going to take 1 year, than for the false " about a week" answer a lot of places give you. on the other hand most businesses do that to get your business and thats something we all have to deal with.

customer service is what makes a good shop/company. everyone can sell other suppliers parts and stuff, but your business really takes off when you respond to emails, send tracking numbers for orders placed, offer suggestions to the customer if there are other parts that you might reccomend are better... little things like this go a MILE over everyone else when it comes to selling products and building a trust worthy shop.

This is a VERY difficult post and there are going to be a lot of people that aren't happy with a certain company(s). but one thing that Jon said that is very important is building a customer/seller relationship.

i'll throw my 2 cents in again... i would do business with SBR over any other company, any day, any time... and the reason why is because when i call them and need something they get it to me quickly, its the right product, and at a great price... and if i have any technical questions.. they dont bother to transfer me to another line.. they answer it fast and if the person doesnt know they find someone who does! thats a nice feature to have when making a successful business... probably the main reason SBR has grown so rapidly over the last couple of years.

im not taking sides.... i have a FFWD butcher crank and love it, great work and it came right on time. i just prefer all the friendly guys at SBR that i've become friends with more than a customer!! :thumb:

Thanks
Tim M.

What I plan on doing is finding the parts/services that I want to go with for the best price and doing most of the assmebly myself. That means that I have to find a very trustworthy machince shop, but thats ok with me.

I want to have a hand in just about every thing done to this car. Hell, if I could drive far enough, I would take my Tranny to shep and build it with him rather then send it to him, but I'm letting that be an expection.

Personally, I am going with FFWD parts, becuase they are going in the direction that I want to go in. 2.0L with ultra-light weight internals. After that Team-Trinity has refered me to a good machine shop. After machining, I will do all the assembly.

I'm not counting out Slow Boy, because one of them got a gold star with a problem I had in the past.
