slow time, i dont get it

i just put a FMIC on my car this week and headed to the track last night ... i ran a horrible 14.9,14.9 and a 14.8 ... i was just running on pump gas at 20psi on my old 14b, the first run it pulled good until i gave it 4th and as soon as i did it felt like i lost all pull.. when i looked at the log .. i had 23-25 deg. of timming advance with no knock in third gear and ass son as i shifted timing dropped to like 10 with 40 counts of knock!!!!! i turned down the boost and ran again with a slightly faster time but found 10 counts of knock above 4000 rpm... third run i i cleaned up all the knock but only had 17-20 deg. of advance..... i ran a 14.2 with all stock intercooler componets, now i have a spearco 210 street core from diamond start motorsport, and vpe 2.5" intercooler pipes with a greddy type s.... do i maybe have a boost leak some where .. even though it holds 20psi the whole time... do i need to adjust the BOV.. i'm not really sure what the adjustment on the type s is for... timming maybe.. i dunno guys i'm stumped .. well way angry with my time yesterday i should have been in the 13's but....... any ideas ...
 
i haven't checked yet, i was hoping some one could tell me if it sounded like a boost leak related problem, the first run it was like 89mph but the last one i think it was 94mph
 
would a boost leak only be present in 4th and 5th though? - i mean, why would he only be knocking in 4th and 5th?
 
Yea you may have a boost leak in the turbo exhaust housing. Not sure why it happens so late in the run though. My 14b would pull very hard in first and was just not the same thew the rest of the gears and the boost world drop some in second gear over 6000 RPM.
What RPM are you shifting from 3rd to fourth?? Is the boost steady in 4th or does it drop of at all??
 
prolly around 6600 to redline .. some where around in there.. my exhaust manifold is cracked... maybe that could be it huh ?
 
Yea the crack will get wider with heat causing more of a leak. If anyone has the secret besides smothing all the sharp edges in the exhaust maniold and turbo exhaust housing please let me know. :mad:
 
well i dont notice any loss of boost ... but when i was runnin down the track i was watchin the tach not the boost gauge
 
We need more freaking details. What injectors are you running? What fuel pump? How are you tuning?

You won't have any kind of a boost leak in the exhaust, because there is no boost there.

An exhaust manifold leak will not cause the kind of power loss you were seeing.

My car trapped 102 mph on the stock SMIC with 450's. You should trap at least 100.

It would be nice to see the rest of the timeslip.
 
well my mods are in my profile.... but here we go ... fic 650, 255 pump, safc II, spearco 210 core, VPE 2.5" IC pipes. greddy type S, 2g mas.....
 
Unless your track is at some weird altitude, I would say that 103-105 is a good trap speed goal.
 
yeah thats what i was hoping for, but my question was... why am i loosing all that power at the top of third and through all of forth ?
 
chances are you aren't tuned right .. there's more load on the engine in higher gears and tuning becomes more important imo. I had settings the worked great for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, and in 4th gear the intercooler and the settings being to lean caused my timing to get pulled like crazy. I'm sure it's just tuning issues. Check your compression, if that's good then do some tuning!
 
I'm going to say it's tuning as well. Get some logs and post them up.
