Ever since someone did a head swap for me my car has had a slow crank, and the battery will die if it sits for more than 3 days, so i went out and bought the apporopate battery for it and it still continues this, i was wondering if theres any major grounds or something along them lines that needs to be removed when doing a head swap, maybe they never hooked it back up? also tryed a new altantor with the battery fully charged.

i think i have a short my car is doing the same thing as your and i think it might be the knock sensor i am going to replace and check to see there is not ground out! well hope you fixed your problem well if you did tell me what yo did? latez

GSX...there are a TON of grounds on your car. Take a look at this file and there is a section in there that shows where ALL grounds are for the 97-99 DSMs. 97-99Electrical.pdf. Along with those, there is information on some troubleshooting and complete electrical system visualization. Like I said, check fusible links in your fuse panel and make sure none are blown. My 120A Alt Choke in my 99 RS went out and my battery drew power like no other and dispersed positive electricity over EVERY piece of metal in my engine bay without grounding it. Around 1 volt every hour (doesn't sound like alot but it IS...your car will start to crank harder and possibly not start soon as it hits 10V).

Juice, I went ahead an PMed you back. Did some quick searching and came across this picture.

Not sure if they are located in the same spot on a 1g as a 2g, but generally this is what you are looking for. Forget the red circle since that is for the specific fuse in the post, but if you notice the 6 fuses with clear tops, those are your fusible links. You can test them a couple different ways...1) using a 10mm (i think that is what the bolts on the side are) and remove the two bolts/screws whatever you wish to call them and the link should pull right out. You will have to use a test light and make sure current moves through. If so it's good, if not then it's most likely toast. or 2)pull the clear cap off and visually inspect the link to make sure it isn't broken.

Note: if the link is broken, you cannot solder it together and get by...i've tried that, and it actually made it worse. You will need to replace them...around $3 a piece at a parts store if they carry them.

Hope this might help. It gives you a good place to start looking. If they are good, you might want to start checking for missing/broken grounds and/or bad connection that may draw unwanted current.

I had this problem once. If I let the car set for more then a day or two the battery would go dead. The problem started after doing a clutch install. Ended up being the ground wire off that is attached to one of the tranny bolts. Fixed my problem. Hope this helps.
