Well I'm really posting this because I just can't figure out why my car doesn't feel as fast as it should. Last night I lined up with a '95 taurus SHO 5 speed on the highway, I barely pulled a car length on him from 50 mph to 120 starting in 3rd gear. BARELY! I kind of think I should be a bit faster, but I'm not sure. My thinking that my car wasn't running like it should started way before this highway pull, please be aware that I've been working on this car forever to get it to run as good as it does, if we had competed 2 months ago I wouldn't have even tried...My mods list is current, I'm logging with TMO software, my mods are as follows-
gvr4 rs JDM FMIC- not the tiny stock vr4 ic
2.25" hard intercooler piping
stock fuel system
stock 14b
boost controller at 14psi
2.5" exhaust, magnaflow muffler, no cats
home depot intake
chopped air can
VIRGIN MAS w/ all honeycombs, no star silencer
17" wheels
KYB AGX shocks
emissions delete
2 washer shimmed wastegate to ensure proper rod tension, no boost creep. I have to extend the wastegate appx. 1/16th" in order to connect the rod, just enough to make sure the door is closing.
Hitting full boost at 3,000 rpm's in 3rd gear
new knock sensor
no idle surge
all new vac lines
21 vac at 1000rpm
boost leak test- very light leaks at TB shaft, loses 1psi every 10 sec.
new FPR
new fuel filter
new air filter
new OEM fuel pump
new exhaust manifold gasket and studs
new turbo-exhaust manifold gasket
new TB gaskets
I was fighting phantom knock issues due to low AFR that were caused by a bad PCV valve and a bad knock sensor for some time, now this is not a problem, my logs show maybe 3-4 counts of knock but not every time, usually just 1 or 2 hits if any.
Timing is at 17 degrees at it's LOWEST point during any of my logs, even through a solid 4th gear pull I get little to no knock whatsoever. If I turn the boost up a few pounds I get a bit more knock that is congruent with high boost and stock fuel management. Timing increases to maybe 20 as I get near redline in any gear under WOT.
No wideband, O2 voltage is at 0.85 or GREATER under WOT, normally breaks 0.90 and nearly maxes out my narrowband.
My fuel trims are high whether I run the stock intake boot or the HD intake, no leaks whatsoever, I capped off the end of the intake/MAS connector for the boost leak test and had 0 leaks aside from the TB shaft seals, they stop leaking around 5psi.
Good compression, can't remember the exact numbers but they were all above 150? I can check it again but it's not the problem.
No smoking, no shaft play, turbo spins free, stock injectors, stock fuel pump, verified stock fuel pressure, quadruple checked timing belt is spot on (I've gone through this many times, even tried moving them one tooth here or there to see if it made a difference). When I got the car it didn't run right at all so I tried to put it completely back to stock before doing any modifications, I don't have a stock exhaust or a BCS solenoid so I wasn't able to try either of those to get a good baseline.
I know with my mods my car isn't going to be crazy fast or anything, I just expected a bit more from it, especially on the top end. When I'm flooring it in 2nd it just feels like something is holding it back. I haven't been to the track because I don't want to launch the car, it's my DD so I don't want to break it and it has 190k miles. It just seems like it's not pulling as hard as it should.
I feel like I have searched these forums to the point where I can't find any new information. My car just doesn't run like it should. I've attached a short log. I would appreciate any suggestions from anyone, no matter how far fetched. If I'm overlookin something stupid I would appreciate it if someone would rub it in my face.
