can someone help me out why my 96 talon tsi automatic is making 16.2's at the track boosting at 12? i thought our cars were supposed to be doing 15's
 
can someone please help me and no i haven't done a compression test nor does it blow smoke from anywhere
 
my buddy ran a 15.3 a few days ago on a 95 gsx auto with intake and 3" exhaust with no cat.

id make a boost leak tester(vfaq.com) and go from there. though dont listen to me, i managed to pull a 17.1 modded last week when i pulled a 15.3 stock :shhh:
 
yea i have a boost gauge i bought and connected and also how do a boost leak tester cost? and how do i check for vacuum leaks? thanks
 
your 1/8th is about right, when i was running NO mods (jsut bought it) at all i was running 10.44 (hot out) and 10.21 (after sun went down in summer) an auto 1g i was running with was doing 10.51 constantly so its not too far off. im not sure about the 1/4 though. It also depends on finding the optimal rpms for shifting your car and your r/t can make 1/2 sec to 1 sec difference depending on how constant you shift and how well you launch. a lot of your track time depends on your familiraity w/ your car and how well you drive it.
 
r/t changes a lot of things, i red lit w/ a .399 (ouch :thumbdown ) and ran a 10.10 stock and i hit the light at .525 - .515 (on .500 tree of course) and i hit about 10.29 w/ really good shifts (for once the launch didnt suck and i didnt squawl 2nd gear) when it was probably 90 F outside. last time i went, with the hacked can and minor other free mods i was hitting 10.01 on a pretty bad red, about .350, and 10.25 on a crap .650 light. all on the 1/8th of course, i dont have acces to a 1/4 w/o an hour drive. oh yea and my speed is usually always 70-79. I would say you probably have a vaccume leak on a small hose. probably an un noticeable crack or slit that only leaks on higher pressure. could be many other things but that was my problem and i found it in about 10 min w/ the pressure test.
 
i would assume one reason would be your smaller turbo. another is your car weighs about 400-600lbs more than mine. im not for sure really, every car is different and i just got into the dsm community about a year ago. as for your r/t. its all about timing and where you stage. i stage shallow and drop the clutch as soon as the 3rd yellow comes on. i can get about a .515-.530 most of the time, if i do the same thing but stage deep i get about a .399. if you run a .300 tree its different too. basically you just got to find out how fast your car comes off the line and do tons of experimenting. which also in turn means lots of red lights, did for me anyways. you have an auto so you will probably want to leave a little later than me as you can sit at the line and powerbrake the rpms high enough to get a decent launch, im not sure, ive never raced an automatic.
 
what i figured out yesterday my car won't spin much tires on powerbrake anymore, before like two months ago i would spin the whole first gear. i know there is something wrong with my car cuz i can feel my car slow
 
hmm, yea it definatly sounds like you got something limiting your car. if you were on the gas the whole time those et's shouldnt have been that far off.
