About to order one but wanna use the plug off the old fan so I can just disconnect when need be like stock. But there's 4 wires to the fan for whatever reason and on the slimline, there's only 2 wires. Not sure what the other 2 wires are for on the stock fan. So how would I wire it up? Probably gonna be doing this in pusher mode so the polarity will be reversed. Yep, I searched but maybe not the right words. I dunno. Thanks.

USING HARNESS SIDE WIRES OF FAN CONNECTOR:

For driver's side fan:
Connect the following together:
1. Original fan harness connector's blue/white (ie. blue with white stripe) wire with
2. original fan harness connector's blue wire with
3. new fan's + wire (usually non-black)
Also connect the following together:
1. Original fan harness connector's black wire with
2. original fan harness connector's blue/black wire with
3. new fan's - wire (usually black)

For passenger's side fan:
Connect the following together:
1. Original fan harness connector's white/black wire with
2. original fan harness connector's white/blue wire with
3. new fan's + wire (usually non-black)
Also connect the following together:
1. Original fan harness connector's black wire with
2. original fan harness connector's blue/green wire with
3. new fan's - wire (usually black)

USING FAN SIDE WIRES OF "ORIGINAL FAN" CONNECTOR:

For driver's side fan:
Connect the following together:
1. Original fan harness connector's blue/black wire with
2. original fan harness connector's blue wire with
3. new fan's + wire (usually non-black)
Also connect the following together:
1. Original fan harness connector's black wire with
2. original fan harness connector's black/white wire with
3. new fan's - wire (usually black)

For passenger's side fan:
Connect the following together:
1. Original fan harness connector's blue wire with
2. original fan harness connector's green wire with
3. new fan's + wire (usually non-black)
Also connect the following together:
1. Original fan harness connector's black wire with
2. original fan harness connector's yellow wire with
3. new fan's - wire (usually black)

Note: If ECU doesn't turn fans on when engine hot, test the 2 wire engine coolant temp sensor near thermostat (2.1k-2.7k ohms @ 68F, 260-360 ohms @ 176F).

You can't just reverse the polarity on the fan and expect it to spin backwards and work, the blades aren't angled correctly. You'll have to buy a pusher radiator fan if you want to be a pusher and wire it in like motozachl posted above.

I did that with my last fan and it worked great.

If you put a pull fan on the front of the radiator and wire it in to spin the opposite direction its not working great, like I said the blades are designed to spin a certain direction. Now if you were to take a pull fan and FLIP the blades themselves you could make it a push fan and not have to wire it in bass ackwards.

:dsm:

If you wire a pull fan bass akwards behind the radiator it doesn't push air against the cars motion well enough to allow the air conditioner to work. That is until above about 60 MPH where the incoming air overpowers the fan and the AC works just fine.

Please don't ask me how I know this.

When you finish wiring the fan, turn on the A/C and hold a strip of paper towel behind the fan to make sure that it's blowing the right way.

Well anyway, I'm debating which side of the radiator I wanna install it on right now. Mainly just wanna make sure I have room for the i/c piping. I've always bought 12 inch fans before. But wondering if a 14 inch would be better, or if it would even fit. Hmmm....

I think you misunderstand. I'm putting the fan in "front" of the radiator, not behind it. Also, if you flipped the fan blades over, they're still at the same angle. Dunno what you guys are talking about. Anywho.....thanks for the info on the wiring. About to get it done right now.

I understand. The gag was just a set up for the reminder to check the actual air flow direction after you finish.

The fan blades will not work the same turning backwards, they are profiled for the designed direction, not straight. They would be at the same angle backwards only if they were straight or symmetrical.

Oh okay. Well I also flipped the blades over as well so that it's just the same. It's all finished up now. But haven't started the car yet.

Okay, something isn't right. Here's what I did. I cut the harness end off the original cooling fan (NOT the driver's side a/c fan), and twisted the blue and green wire together. Soldered that to the new fan's blue wire.

Next, I twisted the black and yellow wire together and soldered those to the black wire. Trying to reverse the polarity of course and make it spin the opposite direction.

When I turned it on, my aftermarket oil pressure gauge didn't turn on. And my boost gauge wouldn't shut off and also was lit up in 2 different colors (it's a 10 color glowshift gauge). I disconnected the harness and pulled the fuses to the gauge's and everything worked fine. As soon as I plugged the harness back in to the fan, it'd screw up again. So something is right.

I run two slim pullers on the inside and I have one pusher on the a/c condenser. I wired the two pullers up normally and then on the a/c fan I wanted to reverse the polarity with the blades flipped around. I purposely bought these particular fans because they do push or pull. So finally tried my a/c yesterday and I keep blowing my a/c fan fuse. I wired it up exactly how its mentioned above and just swapped the +/- so it would spin the opposite. Any thoughts?

I thought I had updated this but guess I never did. My problem was apparently a low battery. As soon as I charged it, everything worked fine. The car had been down for awhile.

As for yours, I dunno. I have both of my fans wired into the connector on the passenger side. They're both pullers and it doesn't cool very well during the heat of the day but if I turn the fans on full speed in ecmlink, the fans keep it cool just fine. I don't have a/c either. Not sure if you having 3 fans might be too much of a load. I dunno. You have the a/c fan wired up to the a/c connector and the other 2 fans on the passenger side connector....correct?

Edit: Both of mine are pushers, not pullers. I haven't fully woken up yet this morning.

Does this wiring method apply for 1Gs?

For a 1G is so easy. Basically + and -. Splice into the wiring going into the factory rad fan. You reverse them to change polarity (aka direction fan blades will spin.) Don't forget to flip the blade if reversible and confirm air is flowing in correct direction depending on pusher/puller orientation. Don't assume! Test it! Pretty straight forward since fan control in 1Gs is not by the ECU.
