slimline fan wiring good or bad?

I wanted to wire up my slimline fans to the blue wire on my turbo timer so when the ignition cuts off the fans cut off.I also was thinking about adding a switch to it just in case i want to shut them off manually.Is this a good idea tapping into the ignition switch for power to the fans?
 
I dont' know the current draw of the fans not the AMP rating of the ignition circuit, so would be hesitant to use it a a power feed, not to mention you'd be bypassing the OEM fan switches which control the fans speed and operation for cooling / AC.

Thinking aloud, but would think you could do this similarly to the fuel pump rewire , where you'd take the "Blue Wire" (I assume that is 12V until the key is turned off) to feed the switch of an aftermarket relay and tap the 12V Power after the the stock Fan Relay. That way as soon as the key was on you'd have normal operation of the fans, but with the key off, the aftermarket switch would open and the fans would get to power

Drawing from the Fan Relay Bypass VFAQ would need two relays one for the A/C and one for the engine fan (unless you wanted to bridge them to both operate at the same time) :dsm:
 
I dont see any reason why not...Your ECU controls fans, but if they are ON all the time why would you be worried. It sound like a good idea and i dont see any reasons why it wouldnt work.... Just dont run any wire from your ECU or turbo timer to be the main power supply for your fans WTF ... The relay should work fine....
 
I just went ahead and wired it up to the original fan plug and it works fine.Thanks for the help.:thumb:
 
If it is only a single fan then the best way is to just wire it up to the stock fan power feeds and let the ECU do the job. You could also do what I did with two fans. They are too much and blow the stock fuse. So I just used the original power feed to trigger two relays to run the fans(I used a fuse on both of the relays).Good luck.
