I bought an eclipse 1998 last week and start working on it's problem the past two day. The guy were saying it needed a clutch but i found that the slave cylinder was broken, both hole for the bolt snap in half. I bought an exedy one on rockauto, i wanted one fast to replace it and didnt have 80$ for one oem, i was going to buy one next summer with SS clutch line as i will do over time but for now i wanted to be able to move the car form my parking so this winter they can open up after snow storm. I didnt find any answer as if the rod have a side and if it's on the wrong side can it make the clutch not disengaging because even after trying to ajust the master cylinder and bleeding the slave the clutch pedal is getting really really hard just before the floor and i hear a little noise from i think the clutch.

it looks like you got an aluminum flywheel, any idea what flavor of clutch you have bolted to it?

The slave kind of only bolts on one way. Once it's all bolted together and bled you should be able to push the slave back into it's bore by hand. If you can't you have other problems you must solve. Adjust the master. Read the posts above also.

I know the slave can only go one side but the push rod does it have a specific side and if it does can it be enough to stop me from disengaging the clutch, the rod have a grove in it and wasnt sure if it goes more inside or outside or if it does not matter thank

I instaled it so that the grove is more on the boot side but i checked on my old one on my other dsm, i couldnt use it as it was too rusty even if it was still working back before i part ou the car and the grove on the rod was on the other side so that's why i asked. I was also wondering how could the slave cylinder break like that, the two bolt casing break in half, i dont know what clutch and pressure plate or other part in that car since i bouth it from a guy that dont remember the name of the guy he bouth it from, same guy who build the car

I dont know about the push rod extended as when i looked under the car the boot and rod was missing. But what i can tell si that the pedal felt like it was a little too wasy for a dsm but my other one had a act 2100 on it so. The other thing i can say is that the fork look like it's sitting too much on the left side, it's not in the middle and a long way from being driver side. I will try to post some picture in a few day when i'm not working. I may also change the master cylinder but beed some proper tool as the nut is frozen there and i will eat it like butter with a normal 10mm wrench. Thank for helping and sorry if i'm not using proper word as i'm french canadian so english is my second language
