I am a newbie so flam away if ya wish, but this is pretty serious. I usually do my own work and mods to my vehicles. 16 hour days does not leave me time to do that stuff at this time like timing belt, water pump, fuel filter, etc. I just bought my first DSM. 78,000 on it wanted to get the previous things said done on my ride. The first time I have ever taken my vehicle to a dealership was today, a Chrysler dealership. (its a 97 Talon). The quaoted me $493 parts and labor to replace all belts, water pump, and fuel filter. A little high but I didn't really have a choice. 11:00 am they call me said they have it apart and it looks like your head is leaking oil a little bit. Of course they said we have everything off (t-belt, etc) it might be good for you to do this now. I agreede at the rapping of 4-$500 more dollars to go ahead and do it. I wanted to stop tonight (Thursday) to pay in advance so I could pick it up Friday night after work when they were closed. Well they were already closed tonight and I saw my talon sitting out side. So I decided to take a look see what shape the pistons and other stuff was in. Popped the hood and everything is together. The 2 belts I could see were done smelled the fuel from them changing the filter, and seen alittle anti freeze laying in the top motor mount, so I am guessing the water pump was done to. I probably won't get any hits on this because it's so dam long but finally the question, Buy the looks of it there is now way on gods green earth they removed that head. Is this possible for there to be no signs of removal. No fresh scratches on bolt heads no miss aligned washers with their previous dirt marks. I know this sounds stupid but I think they are going to charge me for something the did'nt do. Would'nt all the belts and valve cover and all of that stuff be off to change the head gasket? What is a sure sign that they did do it. How can I know for sure before a pay these a-holes? Please any comment would be appreciated.

Dude, go in the first thing in the morning and tell them to stop any more work. Ask them what they did and ask to see all the gaskets that were removed. You Have The right to all used parts by LAW!!!!! If you can't get there before they open, then go back tonite and leave a note on your car. Just to be on the safe side, if you have a camera take a pic of the note on the car!!!! Cover your ASS.

Steve, :|

they should have cleaned the head before reinstalling it and the valve cover gasket is really thick on those 420a's so that should look like new also just like fivestardsm said demand to see those gaskets cause no matter what they say they didnt throw them out already. $493 seems kinda high for pump, belt, and fuel filter it was like only $280 for me to do the same at a dealer about a year ago.

also the head gasket is extremly visable on those motors so if that's not new then they obviously lied to you

What's the name of the part that has the ignition wires? It has DOHC 2.0 L 16V written on it. I'm changing my engine interior to all red, ty.

will an ecu off a 96 gs work "diagnostic purpose only" on a 95 rs? one web site said that it should work but car may run funny but i should figure out if that why all injectors and coil arent getting power

Well chances are nobody has tried it so maybe you could call the dealer tomorrow or if you have the ecu try it your self and you tell us if it will work.

hey what do i have to lose... hmm my car doesnt start anyway.. its a 3000 lb paper weight.... isnt that what all dsms are anyway?

It should work.....but yes, you might have small issues like CEL, and just plainly poor running vehicle. But, it will run. It could also run just fine.

is it worth taking an RS and doing engine work to it? simple...isnt it? but let me just give my PPOV, i think taking an RS and making it capable, of staying with or beating, GS-T's or GSX's is something that one can be proud of...if thats the word. if someone puts that much blood sweat tears into somethinglike that shouldnt they be satisfied with what they have done so far? im just asking..is it worth it? personally This is my first DSM, and DEF> not my last. so i don tkno what to do.

just a question to see what you guys/gals think,

thanks!

i dont no it would probally take at least a thousand dollars worth of mods to keep up w/ a stock turbo dsm as for a non stock one u will have a hard time keeping up w/ it. my advise w/ get a turbo awd dsm they are so much fun. once u drive one u will be hooked i was. just my.02

Just a grand? I'm afraid you'd have a great deal of internals to deal with and possibly a turbo kit (depending on if you want to go NA or Turbo). You'll have a long ways ahead of you, but keep your RS as a daily driver and get a '91 GSX/TSi AWD. Just my personal opinion. I wish I had a 2G N/T for a daily driver and then bought a 1G for the fast one. But I also like my 2G GSX, so it's just a matter of funds that you have. For as much as you would put into your RS to get it as fast as a GS-T or GSX, you could have already had a 1G capable of spanking a lot of the GS-T's/GSX's out there.

i know of somone online trying to be one of the fasted N/T dsm's.. hes got 10k in just the motor. and hes hopping for mid 14's

Ok, on a stock 1G 4g63 if you pull the hose off the stock BOV at IDLE is it supposed to be blowing off the turbo air back to the turbo inlate since the throttle body is closed? Or, is it supposed to be tight and not have any air going through it? any help would be greatly appreciated.
jeremy

I have a 1G BOV on my 2G and it does this. I think it's supposed to. Mine just has a steady stream of air coming from it.

um... which hose? You mean the recirculation hose? Yes, the BOV would be open, because you're at maximum vacuum at idle (okay, maximum other than when coasting down) but you shouldn't have any boost, it should be drawing air in (which is why venting to atmosphere is bad).

Everything's fine, now stop fussing with it or it'll never heal.

I just wanted to say thank you, you guys confirmed what I already thought. Looks like I gotta figure out what the hell is going on now..... Thanks again!
