Simple Intake question

I really have tried here not to waste anyones time on this question, but no other web site seems to know. Does the Weapon R intake (Hyper Short Ram Intake) allow for the use of the factory MAF sensor on a 92 eagle talon Non-turbo, if so does it use a adaptor or does the filter fit over the MAF, thanks for any help. Same question goes for a INJEN intake as well. I was told that when i bought my car alot of Eclipse parts will fit, is this true for an inake as well, eclipse parts always seem to be cheaper.

Yes eclipse and talon parts will fit on your laser. The cars are mechanically identical. As far as the MAF I don't know. For an intake I would recommend getting a K&N filtercharger air filter ($40) and hacking the air can (free). I did this on my non-turbo and it made a phenomenal difference.

I meant Eclipse and Laser parts will fit your Talon. Also if you want more power I would recommend cutting off your restrictive pacesetter muffler and getting a better flowing one like a Magnaflow. That is what I did to my pacesetter catback and it made a huge difference both in power and sound.

I agree a k&n and a hacked aircan is probably the best budget mod for an intake. I did this on a Dodge Colt( Mitsubishi engine 4g15, very similar intake system to other Mitsubishi engines) and was very happy with the results. Just make sure to leave all of the mounting points on the can to lessen vibration. I used a dremel with cutoff wheels( about 7 of them), smoothed all the edges, and repainted. If you want to replace the pipe itself just use properly sized mandrel bent exhaust tubing and cut/weld to fit. I had to use a connector that reduced size on one end due to the tiny throttle body, but it sounded great, had a little better pull, and got me better gas mileage. Best of all it was cheap! Oh, it also worked fine with that huge sensor. Good luck!

"Hacking the aircan" is a very simple, free modification which will allow a lot more air to enter your engine which translates in to better gas mileage and more power. Basically to hack the aircan you simply take it out of the car and cut away most of the can, exposing the filter. Make sure that you don’t cut out the bottom part of the can with the mounts. Buy one of the cheap intakes off of EBAY. Trust me. I bought a Weapon R intake for $140 and it was just a aluminum pipe with a cheap ass filter. I even took it off because it made my car run like crap

I'd be careful with the cheap e-bay intake pipes. I had one on my non-turbo and it was pretty and looked great but the way it was bent it was hitting my coolant temp. sensor and broke it. I ended up putting the stock pipe back on.

i have a non turbo and i have the injen intake it fits over the maf and works pretty good i got my injen brnad new for 150 free shipping from autopartswarehouse.com try them, you will need to hack the air can to clam the air filter down, just cut the ring off that it clams on with and fit it around the intake.

Well I went the cheaper route and "hacked" the air can it was fairly easy. I took me about 30-45 minutes, kinda took my time in doing this. I only used one cutting disc from dremel and it was one of those "diamond edged" disc and it cut right though and then I smoothed the rough edges with a hand file and the dremel tool. Thanks again for the great help. Oh by the way does it make a real differance at all if I try and get creative and replace the intake pipe or am I fine with just sucking in more air though the factory set up?

The most noticeable gain will come from the K&N filter because the stock filter is so restrictive. The stock intake pipe is a little restrictive too but it won't make as big of a difference as the K&N drop in will be. I decided to get creative and make my own 3" intake pipe a few weeks ago and it took a long time to get everything to fit. I didn't notice that much of a difference between that and my stock pipe but it was fun to make it. The only problem with it was that it wasn't perfect so I decided not to go with it. While a new intake pipe doesn't give you big gains, it looks good and it is a little less restrictive. Check different vendors if you don't want to make your own, they run for about $80-$120 usually.
