signs of turbo about to die?

if you have a hard intake pipe the induction sound changes as well, mine started sounding more.. angry.. for the few days before it totally crapped out. shaft play and oil in the intake are the most obvious signs though

Oil in the intake a sign? Don't you mean in the IC piping? The oil in the intake would be from your valve cover vent. Most people block that hose off with a fuel filter or a catch can.

Blowing smoke, shaft play, and oil in the IC piping are definate signs your turbo is on it's last legs.

Oil in IC lines doesn't mean much unless it's a shitload. Talked to owner of performance shop, he just kept bitchin about how the 14b and t25 always seem to have oil in the lines no matter 5k miles or 50k.
