So I was pulling my Pistons out of my block today because I thought my rings were bad.

I discoverd that my pistons look BRAND SPANKIN NEW from the Rings Down. they still have that nice shiney piston look. how ever the rods look like they are OEM. I don't think my pistons have more then 10k on them. the previous owner didn't say anything about the new pistons, and I don't think he knew about em either. so I checked the rings in the other 3 pistons by dumping water on them, and seeing if it drained or not.

It did drain but very slowly, it was just a small drip drip.

So my question is. should I still go ahead and replace my rings? If the pistons are that new, then the rings should be too shouldn't they?

(FYI i am for sure replacing my bearings because they are in horrible shape.)

last time i did a compression test was 500 miles after I had rebuilt my head. (that includes head gasket!) it came up 132 127 143 137

Its a 1.8L 4G37 btw which I think I just answered my question because. the Standard limit for a compression test is 185, and the service limit is 131 (according to my Repair Manual) but then again.

These are the symptoms I had the last few times I drove it.

*Oil pressure Guage reading very low\zero
*Dead Cylinders (sometimes 1 was dead, others times 2 or 3 were dead
*Severe Smoking Blueish\White
*Lack of power
*Poor Mid and Top End. (rare it would go higher then 4.5K RPM)

and yeah i know i need to hone them. i planned on honeing them anyways. there was a like a crystallized Carbon build up around the top of each cylinder.
