Should I hack my 2g MAF?

Hey I have been hearin of people hackin their 2g MAF's and I was wonderin what the advantages and dis-advantages are to doing this. Seems like those honey combs are there for a reason. Is it a easy thing to do?

Us 1g owners do it to forestall fuel cut. When that's not enough, we look for an unhacked 2g maf. I don't know if there is a good reason to hack the 2g piece, it flows enough to support around 400 hp, I believe.

There's no good reason to hack any MAF. Doing it is just that, a HACK.
Yeah, I s'pose that's true, Unfortunately mine was hacked (the ONLY mod it had) when I got it so I'm just going to leave it 'till its maft time. Car runs good though.

I somewhat hacked mine, and my car ran great until it ate a thrust bearing. I just took out one of the small side honeycombs and turned out the ajdustment screw out flush with the body. I tried all everything except for the center one but it sounded like I had cams :notgood:

Yes hacking a 1G maf does back off the onset of fuel cut... But it doesn't seam to do anything for maf overrun. Of course, this is when the maf starts to skip hertz counts because it can't read vast amounts of volume flow entering it. Skipping hertz counts causes the ecu tot hink there is less air, and wala!, blown head gasket.

The 2g maf reads volume flow much, much higher than the 1G. It flows more... but that's not important. The hole in the 1G maf is plenty big. The 2G maf will correctly meter volume airflow at over 500 horsepower.

Don't hack the 2g maf. Most people hack it to run leaner and/or run bigger injectors cheaply. But the volume flow measurement is not consistantly reduced in the same percentage through out the hertz range once any maf is hacked... Thus you are introducing an inconsistant variable in the mix. Do it right. Get a piggly-back or DSMLink. Or at least an SAFC.

It was IMPOSSIBLE to tune my car when I had a hacked 2g MAF in it. It simply wouldnt read the right amount of air and the SAME amount of air each time so my tunings on my SAFC were pretty much pointless.

.
Good to know. My next mods include a blow-thru gm-maf, etc. so I hope to not experience "wala", at least not for missing that.

LOL Yea, I experienced wala! becasue I was hard headed and thought that I could tune the overrun out. Regardless of the experience around me that told me to upgrade. Needless to say, I went straight to a maf translator.
