I can either buy a used S-AFC I from a friend for $150 or get the Greddy Emanage for $385. im interested in the Greddy cause you can adjust timing, which i will need as my shot goes up. so what do you guys think? i got Intake, exaust, UDP, and a 65 shot soon to be 75 shot of zex wet. thanks

You shouldnt' mess with your timing while running juice. Especially if its a wet kit because you don't need it. The "wet" in wet kit means the kit adds all the fuel you need to keep the engine safe. Just add one step colder plugs and enjoy. Plus the safc and e manage do you no good if you don't have bigger injectors or a fpr (fuel pressure regulator) to put more fuel in anyway. You won't need that unless your running boost or an insane amount a N2O.

your suppose to retard timing 2* for every 10 horsepower after 55 to prevent detination. it says it right here in the manual. that is why i asked. im going to be running a 75 shot without it being retarded, which i heard was safe, but it recomends 4*. and i plan on running a bigger shot later, and they say anything past 80hp you need to retard it. so i definaly would need to retard it, thus my need for the E-manage

Was that manual written with the 2g eclipse in mind? I think not, I researched this alot a few months ago and found that with our ecu's you don't want to pull timing with N20 because of detonation. Search for it you'll see what I'm talking about. And if you should need to pull timing why invest so much money in e-manage when you won't utilize all its capable of just for nitrous? Why not just get some cam gears for under $200 and get the same feature.

uhhh you got the wrong timing dude. im talking about ignition timing... which does need to be pulled back. ive researched it alot and anything past 75 needs ignition retard on our cars. anyone else have a suggestion to which i should get?

Timing adjustments are also another issue. When compensating for the air, tuning is involved, of course. When you first begin with a standard 50-55 horse power shot, it is not recommended that you need to have any timing adjustments. But, after that, you must begin to retard your ignition about two degress per every 10 horse power gain. So, for example, the 50-55 shot would be an adjustment retard of 0, while a 60-65 shot would have an adjustment retard of about 2 degress. As for the actual adjustment, it may vary from engine to engine, but is generally 2 degress or so. Some cars that do not have distributors, and have their timing controlled by the ECU may require timing adjustment applications. An example of this would be the MSD DIS-2 System, which allows you to adjust the timing advancement or retard on cars whos timing is controlled by the ECU. The cause of having a timing adjustment is the fact that spark knock can occur, which can ultimately lead to detonation if not properly taken care of. Low knock is not normally a problem, but when you start having higher volumes of knock counts, it can quickly become a situation that needs to be taken care of.

k im bumping and adding to my question...

ok to tune ive heard that the little blinky narrow band o2 gauges are crap and useless... so im pretty sure im going to get the greddy e-manage... should i get a wide band o2 sensor? im on a budget so which one would be best for me? will the PLX m-300 do the job? cuz that seems to be the cheapest and i cant afford something really expensive. thanks for the help

ok this is a bump, i also am interested in this.

But chris just so you know the afc will not retard your ignition (correct me if im wrong) so it will always be set at 0. The e-manage i beleive will retard your ignition. I personally am getting an afc (to tune the fuel curve) cam gears (to then tune the timing), i am looking at a msd unit to retard timing (its ~$100) .

AFC $280 (new, shipped) for you $150 LOL
Cam Gears $180 shipped (ptuning)
MSD Unit $100
Total= $560 and i am tuning fuel curve, ignition timing, & the timing
vs

E-Manage is 585 with support (right? LOL) and it just tunes your ignition timing and what else?

I beleive i would see bigger hp gains using an afc, cam gears, and the msd unit

dammit i thought someone answered my question :p ... ok i have to tell ya, your wrong LOL. your right about the AFC wont touch ignition, the E-manage is only $380 with fuel support and ignition support. so basically for the same price as the afc your getting and the msd thing it will do the same. the thing is you need a lap top to tune it, and if you dont have one then the afc would be better.

as for the cam gears to tune timing, uhh what timing are you tuning? you cant tune ignition timing with cam gears, just valve timing i believe. but i still gotta investigate this whole timing issue, cause im getting mixed reviews about whether retardation is needed...

yes but look

Emanage + a cheap shitty laptop (600 at least)

AFC + Cam Gears + Ignitin Timing = $560

Now how much hp can a emange really tune out of your car?
Cam gears r good for ~5 or 6 and afc is good for another 8, so thats about 13 or 14 hp.

well i already got a laptop so im good for $380... it can pull the same amount out as the afc for fuel tuning, and timing doesnt pull more horsepower, it prevents detonation.

yea but if you tune the cam gears it will prevent detonation & pull for some extra ponies right?
