Should i buy this car??

let me explain my situation to you- I deliver food for a local pizzaria, and on one of these deliverys i noticed a guy had a 1st gen eagle talon tsi in his driveway. i complemented him on it and he offered to sell it to me for $3,000. it has 81k on the body, black, almost mint, 5 speed. His wife is making him get rid of it, he's the orig. owner and just bought a z06 so he needs the garage room. He started it and it sounded great, no squeaks or chirps, but it sounded like the bat was low??? and it was idleing at like 2k but it was cold and it hadn't been ran in a week or 2.
my only worry is that it has a new engine from the dealership in it and it's guaranteed to have under 70k. it has the original transmission, wich worried me even more. I have about $3,000 saved up, but i was planning on buying a 97-99 honda civic. my car now would be a great winter car but the bearings and tie rod are shot (about $400-$500) Are there any things i should know about when i go to look at it again? i have loved these cars since i was 10 (i'm 20 now) and i make about $300 a week. if someone could give me some honest advice that would be great. thanks alot.

Sounds like its in good condition from the way you describe it. Also another thing you can do to test that theory out is drive it, see if it grinds going from 1-2 or 2-3 or even 3-2. If it does then your going to notice you got some worn syncros on the car and you may have a problem with that lateron in the future.

Also, if you did buy the car. I think 3k is a little high for the car personally. NM or not, I would go about 2500 if its great but nothing over that personally.

(*warning*) If you drive the car hard and deliver pizza, you may not have that job for long. If you got enough cash saved to keep the car you got running and get the other one then I would. Since your job requires transportation as a main requirement for the job (*warning*)
