Okay my engine spun a bearing an peppered it completely through the entire engine. Ive been looking for a 7bolt motor for a while now and yet to have any success till recently. A local garage here in pittsburgh has a 7bolt that came out of a wrecked 95 TSI. He claims it ran fine when he pulled it, and that he was gonna buy a rolling chassis an drop it in. He wanted $1,000.00 for it on the start. I talked him down to $700.00.
Now the issue im having with buying it is...I bought my car off this same location about a year ago. It ran for maybe 3 months out of the year, the rest has been down time with me making the repairs, sensors, horrible previous balance shaft removal, off timing, bent valves, now a engine full of metallic sludge. All the work of a douchebag mechanic. I had quite a nasty arguement with the "mechanic" about setting timing on these damn cars and had to put my car back together in the garage myself because I wouldn't let him finish his "work". Thats just to give you an idea why im hesitant.
Now the owner said he would sell it to me cheaper since we had an issue in the past an he felt bad. *fired that mechanic supposedly* Ive never purchased a used motor already removed from a car with no way to hear it run. What should I be checking before I hand this guy some cash. Its the only 7bolt I can find from my same year. Since the stupid CAS on the heads are in different locations on later 7bolts.
Im getting the entire engine, accessories, turbo, manifolds etc etc. Everything except the transmission. Mines an auto anyway.
Sorry for the long post about drama...just wanna know how some fellow dsmrs would handle this tempting but hesitant purchase.
