Should I Add Nitrous

i love how on some of the posts on our boards it turns into someone elses post, back to getting plick's nitrous situation down, i think dsmjim needs to answer his questions, the man is a genious, btw the n/t guys, good luck with that nitrous business, i personally find nitrous to be a very wierd and confusiong mod to tune. GOOD LUCK :dsm:

100 octane would burn up your motor, like someone said earlier. its good in boosted cars, but bad bad in n/t cars. it doesn't detonate enough really. so unless you shoot nitrous all the time, then i'd say just use 91 and make sure you're tuned just fine.

too high rated octane fuel will not burn up your motor!!!!!!!!! It WILL waste your money and slow your car down though.you need just high enough octane rating to prevent detonation, more than that is just a waste.leaded racing fuel will eventually play havoc w/ your o2 sensor, and it will trash your cat.VP makes 2 really good unleaded race fuels; Motorsport 103 ,"will allow turbo engines to raise boost to 20-25 lbs, highest unleaded street legal fuel in U.S." Motorsport 109 for even higher boost levels. (And thier specific gravities are really close to what NX tunes thier jets to) :thumb:. U can view these and more @ www.vpracingfuels.com ;) OH YEA; go 2 steps colder than stock on your spark plugs. NO platinums! start w/ a 35 shot then work up. get a plug reading chart and take it to the track w/ you.and a spare set of plugs, just in case.

Is it really neccesary for him to go 2 ranges colder with the plugs? I know you want to stick with copper and no platinum or iridium. I just thought one range colder would be enough. I know 2 probably won't hurt but off Nitrous wouldn't it foul plugs left and right.

What I was saying is runnign high octane gas on an n/a car is a waste of money and will make your car slower. On a nitrous car when your spraying nitrous N/A rules no longer apply to you as your not N/A. You will want high octane gas 91 or better 93-94 preferably.

Colder plugs are a VERY good idea as ever range colder (going from a 5 or 6 to a 7) takes 50 deg outta the cylinder temps. Thats what keeps them from getting burnt up. If your spraying just go directly to two ranges colder even if your running a 50 shot. Just dont expect to pass emissions testing (though you probablly will) with colder plugs.

If you get a good kit there really is no tuning aspect involved. However a wideband O2 sensor setup (http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/products/lm1.php) makes a great wide band. You can add a SAFC and add and take away fuel based on your air fuel ratio while your at the track.

Just to give you an idea, on my dads Nitrous maxima (which does 12.1 @ 115mph btw) we have picked up a few 1/10ths by tuning with the safc.

With a 100hp shot we took off 3/10ths by straightening out the air fuel ratio across the board at 11.3-11.5:1 which is great for nitrous. Before we used the safc it was 11.0-12.0 going all over the place. Once we clamed it down and made it nice and steady, power was realized and ET and MPH were picked up. Just simply from keeping everything a little steadier and allowing the motor to do it's job. Same thing N/A really but we had two very difference maps for N/A vs. Nitrous so the SAFC2 was good for that because it holds two maps. (just remember to switch when you switch to nitrous use or vice versa).

Nitrous is all what you make of it. Start small and really get to know what your doing. Tuning with a few simple devices will really give you a good understanding of what happening. Move up slowly and keep your eye on whats going on. You'll eventually be on here answering questions that others ask because you know what your doing through simple expereience.

[EDIT] Fixed my NGK plug range temps as per GSGoinfast's post who noticed that I should not drink and post on Dsmtuners.

Jim, i think you have that backwards. the higher the number, the colder. so 6(stock nt) to a 7 would be 1 range colder :thumb:

Yes sorry, thats correct. I was drinking while making that post LOL.... With NGK the higher number is colder.

4G63 with turbo or nitrous use: BPR7ES
420a with nitrous or turbo use: BKR7ES

Both cars come with a 5 stock.

I don't see where you're getting this idea... it's not that it will burn up your motor, it's that your ignition system has to work harder to ignite it... which could lead to a loss in power... have you ever seen someone burn up their motor from running too high an octane because I certianly haven't
