Okay i know everyone is going to tell me to just pull the trans out also but here it goes anyways. I am going to be doing a 6bolt swap in my 97 talon. Im going to be running a rebuilt 6bolt 2g pistons motor. Just wondering if its possible to get the motor out without pulling the trans. Mainly what im thinking is to disassemble the motor in the car. Remove the head, timing stuff ect and try to get just the short block out of it. And then install the short block and install the head, timing components ect.. ?? any ideas or should i just do the removal of everyting ?

ps i searched didnt find nothing

Sorry your going to have to suck it up and pull the transmission out along with the motor. To be honest your engine would be easier to work on that way.

When you doing a swap like this now is a good time to check all the components in the engine bay that may need repair. Not to mention you should clean the engine bay along with the engine and trans. Its a lot but you and your car will love it in the end.

When it comes to your car(especially a DSM) its best to not take short cuts.

I just saw the pics of your car... looks awesome. Yea you definitely want to do things properly.

yeah understand, i had the engine and trans out for the 5peed swap (pulled the trans and noticed crankwalk) so i replaced the motor as well with one i had in the barn, but ended up gettin a knock in #3 so i figured id do the good ol 6bolt bottom end. And i wanted to do a wire tuck and paint the engine bay so i just better take it out :( again! :notgood: haha oh well

Yeah I took out my trans about 4 times and the engine about 3 times. Not fun at all.. but I learned a lot about my car.

So do you have everything ready for the swap?

haha yeah i was down to about just a little over an hour pulling a awd trans out did about 3 of them in 1 month on my back without air
:( lame-o and I dont have everything yet

i need a gasket set, flywheel and clutch (have xtdstage3 undesided weater to use) head studs and cometic gasket, still need to bore the block and polish the crank so i can order bearing and get my pistons/rods put together, and i still need a few things for the motor from my buddy.. but i dont really have the $ right now so im taking it slow. :thumb:

Yes it is! My friend pulls his like that all the time. I prefer to pull both when I do it myself tho.

yeah im thinking i should pull them both 2 just so i can get the engine bay painted im thinking about painting it gloss black so everythign thats painted to match the body sticks out a little more, and thinking of painting the block something other than black as well.

easy and fast way , disconects the passenger side upper ball joint, lets the whole spindle slide out to the car, of course disconect the brake lines from the strut so the spindle can come out much easier. Lose the cv axle from the driver side only the nut , and slide the cv axle. disconect teh engine fro the transmission with the engine holding in the crane, and slide the transmission to the passenger side, and done.
