I'm about to begin installing my fmic with short route piping. I'm trying to figure out whether the curved intake pipes such as Dejon's are required for such a setup. The reason I ask is because I was going to just get the 2.25" elbow for the stock intake pipe for now ($35) rather than pay $170 for the curved intake pipe which I will get later down the road. I just blew $3000 on upgrades in the last month so I'd like to chill out on the car expenses for a bit.

Thing is, I'm looking at the curved intake pipe and how the bov pipe will be routed under it, and I'm wondering if the curved pipe makes clearance easier. I'm not sure if the stock intake pipe shape and position will cause problems for me.

So will the elbow be enough for now?

Depends on what intercooler kit your getting, or at least where your pipe from the ic to the throttle body is located. But nah I've seen people running with the stock plastic intake, only make sure that you are using a performance filter. But yeah if you are able to later on, get the hard intake charge pipe. You should be able to reroute the bov into the intake just fine with the stock pipe though.

The elbow will be enough, but I would just go and get a new intake pipe. As for clearance, I found that my dejon tool 3.5" intake pipe was just fine for the stock bov recirc. tube. This was with 2 different BOVs, greddy type-s and hks ssqv.

I'm using the xs/ss auto fmic kit. Hereis a pic of my engine bay, it will give you an idea of how the recirc hose will mount with the xs kit and a dejon pipe. I use an hks ssqv now and fits just fine except recirc hose inverted.

^^^

I'll be installing the same fmic. The dejon 2.25 elbow to replace the "accordion" stock elbow on the intake retains the same straight form factor though. The curved intake pipe that you have is the one I want, I just don't want to blow $170 on it at this point. The curved intake pipe seems to accomodate the short route better because the curve gives that extra room below. I'm just hoping the $35 dejon elbow will get me by for an install and has enough space there.

Thanks for the info guys.

was just going over about needing an new intake pipe to replace the stock one, w/ short route piping thats funny. i also have the xspower fmic kit..

just not sure on what size pipe to get.. i have 14b now and plan on upgrading to 16g but i need my car! its not running right know btw.. thats off topic

We have similar mods. I'd like to see some pics of your ic short route install if you have any, particularly from the turbo to fmic inlet.

You have an a/t right? How was the install in light of that and did you run into any difficulties because of that? I also have an a/t.

the throttle body elbow(2 bolts, 2 nuts) was tricky. the bottom front nut was a pain in the ass so get to (with the xspower piping anyways).

and the little nipple on top of my 1g bov is mushed because of the recirc tube

. the other issue i had with the short route piping was the auto trans fluid dipstick tube..(had to hammer it to the left a bit) doesnt take much, just remember to remove the dipstick so u dont hit that plastic and break.. doh! ha i think thats pretty much it for problems.. i just took mine out for a ride(1) started raining, (2) didnt kno it was illegal to ride around with no front bumper, (3) the bov upper piping came out the top coupler.. blah.

Thanks for posting the pics, that was helpful. I'll be installing mine soon on a similar setup, just a different turbo.

What did you end up doing with that j-pipe and how did that turbo to ic inlet pipe work out for you? I need to get mine cut/welded shorter by about 4 inches.

i used to 90* 2inch coupler, vibrant is the brand name(damn $48). i used that an a nothing piece of piping to fit in between the gap. i had to take the jpipe off some to slide the 90* bend coupler onto it and then put it back on.

im looking forward to getting around some other experienced dsmers. so maybe they can help me clean up this clusterF^ck i have going on in the intake area.
