Shifting problem with gst

I cant get my head around this issue, whenever my 97 automatic shifts gear the brake and battery light turn on momentary, and the harder i punch it the longer it stays on for the moment. I thought it was a alternator problem but the alt works just fine. Is it a belt or wiring harness problem?

Check your belt make sure its not loose and than check your grounds on the battery. I had the same issue when I had cams light would come on. Found one of my grounds were loose. Hope this helps

Totally irrelevant.. This would have nothing at all to do with his issue at all.. Clearly something electrical. If you dont know, dont post anything.

It all seems to be grounded. Might be the alt belt then because it still squeals in cold start up.

A squealing can mean too tight of a belt also. Keep that in mind. This problem does seem linked to having a load on the engine and your charging system.

You do not have any mods listed in your profile. If you have a logger, or even a turbo timer take a look at the voltage when you give it gas to see if it goes down you are drawing from the current. The easiest check/fix is the alternator belt. After that I would look towards the battery and alternator, as one is dependent on the other.

Turns out the alternator belt was too loose. but everything is grounded, alt works fine no drain, but the light still comes up when it shifts gear could this be a transmission problem?

Your belt could be glazed over from being loose and slipping. Even though everything has been tightened the belt may not be able to grip under heavy load.

The belt is in good condition, for some reason the problem comes and goes.

Just as an update I found the problem with the brake and batt. light coming on momentary when shifting gear. The problem I found was that my neg. battery terminal was severely corroded and makes sense looking back. When ever I gunned it, the immediate power increase would be too much for the terminal to handle there fore not sending the generated power from the alt. to the battery.
