Hi...
Okay so my stalk leather shifter is literally coming apart at the seems. So I am trying to take it off and replace it but I can't get the dern thing off. I remember reading some were that you had to turn it counter clock wise to remove it and I got it started but I doesn't seem to be coming off. I'm afraid to keep turning in fear that I'm going the wrong way about it. My method of removal has been a bolt barker and a strap used for removing oil filters. (not exactly Sane but it is easier than by hand) Is there some trick to removing it or do I just need to keep going?...oh yeah, I drive a '90 TSi.

It's the whole unscrewing part that can be a little unconfortable. Especially if your knob gets stuck.

Well, the good news is that if you're deciding to replace your stock shift knob with an aftermarket one, almost all of them use a combonation of 2-3 set screws in order to secure it to your shifter. So, if you do happen to destroy the threads when you're removing the old shifter, you won't need them (IF YOU'RE REPLACING IT WITH AN AFTERMARKET SHIFT KNOB).

No I am replacing it with a OEM knob off of a EVO VII. The threads are the same. Looking at the old knob that is still on my car, it looks like there is a rivet pin on the left hand side of the knob. My only guess is to drill it out. It probably sounds stupid since everybody is telling me how easy the knob comes off but I am running out of options.
