I have a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS Automatic 2.0L 4 cylinder coupe.

In the summer months or any hot day, it seems as im driving it will get stuck in 2nd gear . As i press on the gas the RPMs will continue to increase , and it will not shift . When this happens the engine is reallly loud. A sure way to know this is going to happen is when I shift into drive/N /L / and 2nd the car will jerk. Sometimes the car won't even accelerate as i step on the gas the RPMs just increase . When that happens i have to brake and slow down and than the car will jerk and go into "limp mode" I guess they call it.

What is wrong? helpppp

I took it to AAMCO and they replaced the solenoid and some other little stuff but that wasnt the problem.

I also took it to Mitsubishi, spent a heck load of money to replace the input/output speed sensor and got a transmission flush, and was recommended to get another solenoid pack.

none of this worked!

Thanks! (Sorry if there are related posts)

You can pull the trans, empty the fluid while checking for shavings. Also check the rear end clutch pack its on the far right side (drivers side) of the trans. My old GST auto trans before i swapped to a manual had about 6 10mm or 12mm (cant remember) bolts. If you find any shaving be sure to keep them all. if you have aluminum shavings then thats the trans itself im pretty sure. If you find any copper like or bronze colored shaving im pretty sure that is in the torque converter. Might wanna invest in a new tc. I have a used 420a tc if you end up needing one.

Check your fluid! IF its dark and nasty, thats a :nono: If Your end clutch pack has gone out. You will need to purchase a new one, and have it installed. Or do it yourself, its not very hard at all, as long as your have a way of removing the trans itself easily. I do believe since it has been driven on a bad end clutch pack for so long, that you'll probably need to get a whole set of clutch packs just to be safe. If you sdont think youll be able to do that, then run to the nearest junkyard and try to find a good auto trans.
OH Be sure to flush out your auto trans cooler and lines! A trans shop will be able to do that for you, or i can sell you my old one.

Hope I helped!

Hey I had the samething happen to me on my 92 talon ESI and it was the clutch pack in the tranny. Cost about $475 up here, so it'll probably be cheaper for you, depending on how much they changed the tranny in the 2g's. you shouldn't have to pull that transmission ( at lest the shop I got mine done at didnt) just pull the whole pack and check every plate. Mine was slipping on only 2 of the i think 10 they have in the tran, but its roughly a hour and a half to 2 hour job the parts should cost around 280 I believe? I'll see if I can find my bill, but they should be available in kits.

hope I made a productive contribution!
