Sylvan Lake,
Hey guys,
I got the car back and took some photos of the trannsmission last night. I didn't take the intake off because it was so damn cold.

This is looking straight down on it. Its hard to see but to give you a bearing of what you're looking at, thats the front tip of the HKS SSQV at the top there.

What kind of application are you running that you need a stage 4? Stock trannys are pretty decent for any power range really.

You can. I was just asking what you needed a $2500 tranny for when the stockers are really good with just a a basic rebuild.

Whether or not he needs this tranny is totally dependent on what his plans for the car is.
I agree on the fact that its a beefy tranny for a basic setup on the car, but if he has big plans for his car, than strengthening the tranny's a good thing and will save him alot of headaches in the future.

If your really serious about your plans for the car than this is a good step because youll never have to worry about problems down the road when you start putting out alot of power.

Trust me, it sucks taking one step forward and two steps back

Im in the same boat I want my tranny rebuilt I hab a 96 gst I have a 14b in the box ready to go on what kind of rebuild do I need for about 300 hp

Please don't get on this topic again. The last thread the OP started turned into this (and it wasn't pretty). It's his car, his money, his goals, and his plan. He can do whatever he pleases.

Just look at how nice that thing looks :thumb:

To the OP - glad to see you finally were able to get some pics up. Try and get some better ones (without all that stuff in the way of the clean, new tranny :sneaky:).

Please don't hijack someone else's thread. If you have a question, start a new thread for yourself as you will get much more help that way.

However, if your goals are only around 300hp, then a stock rebuild will do just fine (maybe with an aftermarket clutch).

OK well read the post before you include me in that comment. I was supporting his decision to go with the tranny.

That being said, lets get back to the topic.

I definately would like to see some more pictures though.

Yeah I do have big plans in the future. Distant future but big plans non-the-less. It shifts apsolutely incredibly. Its a little stiff going into fifth but I can already feel it starting to clear its throat. Lightspeed has a car club every Friday night that I try and go to. If I was going tonight I would take the intake and the intercooler off for you guys but its honestly too damn cold here when the sun goes down to start taking stuff apart outside. If Lightspeed still has my old tranny I'll take some pictures of that for you too. Its literally almost cracked in half. Shows what little to no maintenance and bagging the piss out of it does (not by me). All in all the transmission cost me $4156.05 not including labor. Came to a close five grand out the door. I know its all going to be worth it though.

Ouch! I feel your pain bro. But still, it must be fun to drive. I've got a while to go but a new tranny's definately on the to-do list.

Enjoy it man!:rocks:

You'll love the trans!! I love mine. Shifts like glass at 8300 rpm. Also replaced the slave, pedal assembly, and put a new 2600 in mine when I put it in.

Dont tell anyone but mine is a stg 3..;)

Hey just curious... i bought my talon cheaper than what u spent on that trany. Now after feeling slightly embarassed that someones transmission is worth more than my car, what would one require a four thousand dollar transmission for?????? This is simply out of curiosity im not bashing at all i just want to know.

Big numbers that's what.:thumb:

Oh, baby. I want to take that tranny back to my room to have a little one-on-one time. It makes me want to frame that pick and put it by my bedside... I can dream can't I?

So is this an xmas/Chaunnaka present to yourself or what?

Well for example, the Lonnie Gandee guy who posted right above you with the pics of his stage3 trans,
look at his 1/4mile time he listed in his avatar
12.1 at 105... Thats a really good et for that mph, means his launches and shifts/ driving is really good, versus needing more power to reach that speed. It took my car 110+ mph traps to get low 12s and 115mph traps for a high 11 sec pass, ( my local rebuilt tranny w/ double 2nd has a bad syncro in 3rd, it causes me to shift much slower in that gear which hurts 1/4time.)
Stock 1g dsm trannys are useless for any form of racing if you ask me.
If I had the money id have a stage 3 or stage 4 or whatever in my engine bay right now reguardless of current hp !:thumb:

Looks nice:thumb:, but it'd be sweet if you could get it color powdered or painted.

Also, unless you crash your car a week later, transmission rebuilds are always worth the money. But if you really want to go for all out racing, go for a dual clutch transmission. A good one will shift in .008 seconds, and you don't have to worry about clutches. (If you don't know what a dual clutch is, I know that sounds weird, but dual clutch transmissions have have no clutch pedal or plate. They use 'wet' clutches.)

It'll cost you more than 4 grand, but you can't begin to imagine how much better it is.
