hey guys, just put the engine back in and tried starting it, its on jacks at the moment, but the thing is shaking REALLY bad on idle, then dies off, any ideas? it almost felt like it was going to jump off the jacks :/ could this be that the timing is not right? :( the belt was replaced

ummmm maybe.. if you dont have it on right.. but how close is it? I mean, it would have to be off alot to be throwing your motor around like that...

are they supposed to line up in a straight line like the stock ones? im confused on this one.. because no matter what i do they dont want to go in a straight line, and if i get them in a straight line, the oil pump sprocket doesnt line up correctly, its a tooth off

kinda.. LOL.. when I put the belt on, I had a friend to help.. this is what we did:

I had him up top, controlling the top part of the belt, and the sprockets with 2 long wrenches (so that we could move the cams in place)

I started at the crank, and worked my around counter clockwise, hitting the oil pully first, and then getting up to the intake cam gear..

Had him get the cam gear as straight as possible in there, then line up the belt.. once those were lined up, I came up top and maneuvered the exhaust cam into place... they didnt sit EXACTLY perfect, but they were lined up very very very close..

Then I had him hold everything up there, whilst I ran the belt down the rest of the pulley's to the tensioner... after that, I rotated the motor a few times, and got it dead on..

Thats just how I did it, and I nailed it first try.. If your cam gear marks are close enough to where you cant get them any closer, that should be good enough.. as long as its not off by a full tooth or anything..

Plus, your gears arent causing this, unless they are wwwaaaaayyyyy off...

well, i got the belt just about dead on, started it up, seems to sound like shit

but atleast the vibration is gone :/, i had it atleast 1 tooth off, im guessing i screwed the engine up? itll run, sounds like shit, but i dunno, def doesnt seem like it used to :/, if i didnt screw it up im sure it just needs to be tuned again maybe..

i am almost positive the shop that did the work had the timing retarded, ### i remember the marking not lining up, but the car ran great.. was dyno'd and everything, the whole reason of replacing the belt is because the idiots put a bolt into the oil pan that didnt go there, it was rubbing my timing belt had a notch in it all the way around the belt

I don't *think* one tooth will kill your engine. Try and get it timed exactly right and I'll bet your good to go...

yeah i got it to stop from shaking so bad, but it runs like crap now :p
i guess ill have them re-tune it, it has an apexi fc commander in it, but i was told not to touch if i didnt know what i was doing LOL, and i know for a fact the settings were reset, thats my guess as to why its running like crap
