Hi, Im a newbie to this site and a newbie to dsm's altogether but I'm slowly learning a lot more about them.

I have a shaking problem with my 1997 2G converted to a GSX from a GST, 6 bolt swap.

It runs fine when you first start it and drive it for a few minutes, but then all of a sudden it will start shaking when you put your foot on the gas. When you release the gas pedal, the car is fine. It will only have violent shaking as you step on the throttle and it doesn't want to pick up speed. Idk whats going on, but I've already tried a couple of things that haven't worked. There are no boost leaks, i put in a new bosch o2 sensor, put in new ngk bpr6-es plugs. The engine is all stock with a 14b turbo. Again, 6bolt swap engine, 2g tranny. The only thing i can think of that could be the problem is the ecu. Will i have to reprogram it? Please let me know what you think, again i am a newbie so please be patient with me.

-Thanks :thumb:

Sounds like it could be any of a few different issues. I would start by making sure the mechanical and ignition timing are all in line, then check fuel components.

Sounds like you are having the random misfire problem common with a 1g cam angle sensor used on a 2g. The easiest way to fix it is to install a 10k potentiometer on the baro pressure sensor wire, or to buy ecmlink.

Good call. Almost missed that. Definitely a possibility.

I too am experiencing a similar problem with the DSM I just picked up, car starts pretty good, cranks a little longer than my old car did though, idles and revs nice, but under acceleration the whole car has a shake.

-I just picked up the car which has been sitting for a bit so I am gonna do all the basic maintenance first and hopefully it doesn't turn out to be something more serious

-I gotta get some new/good gas in her and new fuel filter
-Plugs/wires
-The CAS makes sense that you guys mentioned
-In my case its an auto so I'm hoping its not the torque converter (but you probably have a 5 speed)
-Could be motor mounts
-Driveshaft carriers

Just a couple ideas...

For sure, hopefully I'll be getting my EVO III back from Justin soon and then the troubleshooting will begin, I'll keep you posted

Hey guys! I have my first 2g, 1999 GST and having the exact problem when I floor it...... the car was sitting a while. I haven't done the boost leak test yet....please keep us posted. What's a CAS?? PM me ### :hellyeah:

CAS is a cam angle sensor.

I really think its a ECU problem, because whenever the shaking happens I just push in the clutch, turn the car off, wait ten seconds and turn it back on then its fine again for a while and then it will randomly start shaking. I'm 70% sure It's a missfiring problem thats causing it but I don't know for sure, I just bought a brand new ecu so Im going to program it and then install it and let you guys know what happens. Thanks again for the replys.

You guys wouldn't be mistaking any of this for a bad cv axle joint, would ya? It can shake pretty violently only under acceleration.

Small update on my situation.

Got my turbo back installed that, swapped the MAF in from my old car, which I know was working, got some 94 octane into her and fired her up, and was still shaking/vibrating badly at idle.

Next day I installed some NGK BRP6ES plugs and some wires, one of the old plugs was wet with gas, so I don't think it was firing correctly. Started her up and was much much smoother, very noticeable.

Still have a oil leak from my oil feed for the turbo I'm working that out so haven't been able to do a test drive to see if the shake is gone while accelerating. I hope so though! I'll update once that happens.

It happened at any speed just after driving for 10ish minutes. So, I found a tiny boost leak in one of my injectors
So I put new orings in on all of them and new spacers. Then I put in a AEM ecu and programed it and now its running perfect, no more shaking! :) hope this helps the rest of you. Thanks again for all the suggestions. It really helped.

If this only happens when you floor it this sounds stupid but honest to god it happened to me. Try changing the oil and filter and cleaning out the oil filter housing. Mine happened due to lower oil pressure and it caused it to shake dont ask me why but it happened.

If it happens when floor it and after you turn it off and on it will work fine... Then It should be a Misfire.

Link will take care of it.

This is the second time that I hear this, However, I have never find any information about it..

Do you have a link?, Or a Rite up?..

I would like to know more about it.

Well after a while I found a misfire code from my obd2, don't ask why it didn't show up earlier because I really don't know, so I did what brianwheat said, thanks by the way, I put a potentiometer that I got from radio shack on the baro pressure sensor wire and that fixed the misfire code from the CAS. So it was the 1g CAS that was causing the problem for me the whole time. So my ecu was working fine but my friend had an extra AEM ecu so we put that in so I could tune my car the way I wanted. But basically, if anyone else ever has this problem, put on that potentiometer and it should fix the problem :) thanks, you guys rock!
