I was trying to reinstall my oil pan with my oil feed tapped in, while reinstalling i snapped one of the bolts!!! I put all the others in just fine. How can i get it out? here is a picture of the old oil pan (for refference). Do you think the two adjacent screws would hold it into place? At least long enough for me to drive the car down to the shop where i can have someone pull this ting out. Anyhow, can i do this my self? What is involved in this? I live on an air force base and i have virtually every tool out available to me at the hobby shop. HELP? (just to clear things up, half the screw is stuck in the block with noting holding the oil pan to the block.)

Only half the screw is stuck in the block? If you have enough room, you can try using vise grips. Set them very tightly, then clamp them on whatever you can, and slowly back the screw out.

If you can't do that... I don't know if this will work since those screws are pretty tiny, but you could also try drilling a hole straight down the center. If that's possible, then go pick up an appropriate sized EZOut and watch it come right out.

If that doesn't work/isn't feasible, then your only other option is to drill the whole thing out and tap the hole for a bigger screw.

If you need to take it somewhere, put the oil pan on like normal and fill the engine with oil. Afterwards, turn the car on for at least five minutes or so, then get underneath it to see if it'll hold oil long enough. If it's only leaking by a little (a few drops), then you should be ok until you get to a shop.

Next time... 9 ft.lbs. only... :thumb:

Easy and $15 fix would be a screw out like mentioned above.

Long and free would be to take the pan off again and screw it out with your fingers as the flange is flush with the bolt threads and won't be there anymore.

If only the head were broken off and you didn't have the means to pull it out yourself, you could use the broken bolt as a stud and throw a nut on there (if there are threads exposed...). It would be a pretty rinky dink fix but it would last you until you could drive it somewhere to pull it out. Probably not the best way to go, but I thought it was kind of clever:rolleyes:
