Hey guys. I have a 2g eclipse gst turbo. The motor is fully built with 272 cams. I am running a 1g cas and I am trying to set the base timing. I took it to a shop to dyno my car and they told me my base timing was at 32*.

I have ecmlink v3 and i set the idle to 750 and then ground the timing and the diagnostic pins in link then checked the timing and it was at 32. I took it to another shop and used another timing light and got the same result. Is that even possible for it to be that far advanced? The motor has been in the car for over 2 months and 1000 miles and I was able to boost to 18 psi up to 5500 rpm.

I am using link to simulate the TPS using the throttle position. I am thinking maybe that is why i am getting an improper reading? I dropped the timing to 7* using the 1g cas and then the car was a dog. I had to put the throttle to the floor just to get around so i set it back to where it was.

I am clearly missing something so hopefully somone can help me shed some light on this. Thanks in advance!
:ohdamn:

I double checked that I was at TDC and that the mark on the crank was correct. Also my timing marks on the cams were at 3 and 9 oclock. Now when i was checking the timing i had both the diagnostic pin and the timing grounded. Not sure if that would make a difference or not. I will try again with only the Timing grounded. I will also try to turn off simulate the ICS. Any other ideas are welcome

First of all i would aim at 800rpm fir idle at least those cams will run alot smother... Take of the simulators and adjust ## sensors the right way to at least make sure they are ok... Have someone else recheck timing. Make sure no skipped teeth. Dont mess with cas till car is where u want it. Take a log of car running it might hold a clue to whats going on.

Hey Spawn, thanks for the response. The car has been running for about 2 months and just over 1000 miles with this set up. To be honest i would have never known had i not taken it in to dyno it. He checked the base timing prior to us starting then said he could not tune till the mechanical timing matched what the computer was seeing.

I had my idle set for 900 rpm for driving around. I also have 2 months of logs with it running. I was tuning it myself and thought i had it pretty good. AFR's were where i set them and no knock. Other than chasing down some vacuum leaks the car seemed to run fine. NOw that I have moved the CAS it runs like a bag of dirt. I marked where I had it before starting so I put it back.

I went to 2 shops and used 2 different timing lights. We checked both at the crank and the cams. Both indicared i was at 32 degrees. I still find that hard to believe so hoping someone can tell me something I am over looking. Something must be missconfigured in my link.

Hey Guys, mechanic clearly did not know what he was doing and he put the timing mark in the wrong spot. Took it to a dsm board member and we verified the timing and it was good. Thanks for the space!
