Setting The 1g CAS On My 2g 6bolt Motor?

Hi i found this guide here Engine Timing but dont i have to cancle out the ECU somehow before setting the CAS? and if so how do i do this.

I took it to a guy who deals with 1g cars and he said they had a plug on a 1g that would shut off the ECU but he was unasure how to do it on a 2g car.
 
If you are running dsmlink go into link and check the "ground timing." Then get a timing light and turn the cas to make the timing match what dsmlink is showing.
 
(QUOTE You need a logger or scanner & a timing light to set the timing.) Well FICK i dont have a logger or a scanner where do i get one of these and are they costly? i do have a odb2 is this the same thing?

and there any way of setting it w/o a use of a logger or scanner? my car is a 97 so it dont have that brown plug like 95-96 :(
 
Check the base timing on the crank and cam gears. Then make sure thats all at tdc, pull the cas out and look at the gear inside the cas, you'll notice theres a dimple/dot on the cas itself, line that dot up with the notch cut out on the cas gear and bolt it in. The car should start. Adjust it to your liking or w.e. suits you for idle, I think on my car I had to advance it a tiny bit.
 
i already did all that but i was told not to drive it hard untill i do the timeing light on it or it could damage the motor.

Also couldnt i just unplg the ECU to cancle it out?
 
Well there must be a way to set it w/o haveing to buy a DSM link

i can get a timeing light just getting around the ECU problem.

Surely some one here has did a 6 bolt swap on a 96+ car and not had a dsm link to set the cas with.

2G Turbo ECU Pinouts

maybe you can ground the correct pinout if you don't have the groudning pin like the 95-96 talons have.

Otherwise looks like you should get dsmlink, which you should be running eitherway with a 6 bolt.
