serious boost cut

ok i am helping my buddy out with his 98 gst,only extras are 3'exhaust,and his intake and BOV, he put the 20g on it which i didnt advise to begin with,he will begin to boost around 3400rpm but once it starts spooling it feels like the car is going to catch but doesnt,it pulls for a second then just goes nowhere but you can hear the turbo spoolin hard,i checked for boost leaks, i have a 20g on my car as well and befre i had more mods it still boosted good for me , any suggestions for him? i know he doesnt have mods to support the 20g but he should still be pushin some power

Probably too much air flow or boost leak. No matter what without a fuel controller your A/F ratios will always be off with that turbo.

I was going by your first post where you said you did a BLT. I assumed you fixed whatever you found, but if you didn't, obviously go back and fix them. Which 20G is it? Sure it can be capable of pushing a good amount of power, but without the right supporting mods, which the car obviously does nothave , you will be slower than the stock turbo.
You must get supporting mods, especially fuel and fuel management, that will help you to run that turbo correctly.

well i just tightened everything down and his BOV had a leak so i put hisstock one back on, it was riding good and will boost ithout cut sometimes then have cut at others, done for the day blew the oil line to oil filter

Id look into getting a logger to see what you are working with. But like everyone else said you are going to need supporting mods for this car to run properly.

12psi, it wierd ### on my old setup with 20g i would spool late but no cut,hes building boost it just cuts at times,like tapping the gas pedal will elimante the cut or half throttle will boost without anycut its when u hit the gas , i def agree with everyone else he needs the mods to support but im just trying get him running a without this cut,i think he has a mixed up up vac line or maybe another small boost leak. he should be able to hit 7-9lbs without any fuel cut

Just turn the boost down until he can get supporting mods and something to get rid of factory induced fuel cut, which is what's probably happening.

There is a boost control solenoid that opens up to release the boost when too much knock is detected. Did you leave this inline when installing the MBC?

A 20g, 550 or 560s & an safc with 20% compensation = no boost cut.
It should have a wallbro at least with 40psi fp & an automotive fpr.
This suits the 700cfm of air your mate is forcing in with a 20g.
A std ecu fill be fine & not hit boost cut if you just have the above.
