Topics been covered before, but I havent seen this specific setup. I have been out of the game for almost a year, and need to help this guy get his car going.

I just need to know what each sensor is for. And you can see here we have 3 sensors in a row.

I believe #1 is to the ECU, #2 for the temperature gauge, whats #3? I dont recal seeing this sensor on other thermostat housings either. My best guess is its for A/c which this car does not have.

As far as the wires, I dont know which colors go where either. Any info is appreciated. Everything appears to be working, but want to make sure we're setup correctly here. next job is to figure out a way to get teh fan to get on automatically without the sensor in the radiator (aftermarket rad doesnt have a spot).

thanks

Colton

  1. Engine Coolant Temp Senso (ECU)
  2. Engine Coolant Temp Sensor (Gauge)
  3. Engine Coolant Temp Switch (A/C)
#3 isn't un-used, it just won't give you a coolant temp reading on your dash gauge unless you have that wire plugged in. What is this t-stat housing out of and if you could take pictures of the actual wire colors or atleast post what the are going to 1, 2, & 3 I could look at a wiring schematic for the make/model/year of DSM. To be honest with you the above is an educated guess, if your CT gauge is operating and the car is running just fine then I'd have to go along with you and say its the A/C.

*EDIT*
Changed it to the correct sensors so future members don't read my incorrect information.

Well dsmlink is reading what seem to be accurate engine temps (190), and the gauge is also working fine. But it wasnt working a few days ago, but no one seems to think they switched any wires or anything.

Appreciate the input, we shall see how the car continues from here.

Any chance you could post up the answers to my question please? I've never seen a t-stat housing like that and would like to know the wire colors. ;) Thanks, and I'm glad rimmbrme was able to clarify it it for you.

Listed in the diagram below, 3/8" BSPT for the larger sensors and 1/8" BSPT for the smaller gauge unit sensor.

Old thread but I can't upload pictures from my xbox so this is the only thread I could find to use as a reference.

I have 2 broken sensors(wires broke out of the sensor) on my t-stat housing, the first is the #3 listed in the first top photo,
and the second is the white plastic #6 in the photo directly above this post, which is unlabeled at the top photo(up and to the right of the #2)

I have the full a/c system removed, from the photos it looks as the sensors are related to the a/c system.
Would I need to replace these sensors and keep them plugged in, or could I remove the entire a/c harness(I assume these 2 sensors are part of that harness)

If I could get some feedback on this I would greatly appreciate it.

The only sensor in the thermostat housing for the A/C is the white plug, #6 in the post above yours. It appears to me that the original poster had two sensors for the temperature gauge, one simply acting as a plug. The #3 in the original post actually appears to be the original sensor for the gauge.

The original post does not show the engine coolant temperature switch for the A/C at all.

Both of these connectors are a part of your engine control harness. They are not fully removed easily. If you don't have A/C, the white plug does not need to be installed nor does it need to be plugged in. The small one, again, will be for the temperature gauge so without it, your gauge will not work.

So I could remove the white plug(#6 post above) and put a 3/8 bolt in its place.

#3 sensor in the original post is broken off, this would explain my odd temperature readings, it will immediately shoot up to the overheating zone even during a cold start, with no signs of overheating.

Thank you for clearing that up for me.

What is the part number for #6 AC SWITCH?

Could a failing sensor cause the car to think it's overheating? Occasionally while driving in the city my car will creep towards the red on the gauge until i turn it off and back on, then when driving again it will stay at normal operating temp, a little under halfway on the gauge. I have a brand new t-stat and fresh coolant as I did a coolant flush but I didn't replace any sensors as I wasn't sure if it was the problem or honestly which sensor it was that I would need to replace

Does anyone know the part number for #6 water temperature switch (A/C) for a 1992 EAGLE TALON TSI AWD TURBO?

The part number is listed in the post immediately before yours.

The sensor in the bottom of the radiator is MB356704. They are not exactly the same sensor but they do look the same and have the same connector.

This sensor is the one that controls the turning off of the compressor to prevent damage when temperature reaches 239 degrees? This sensor is normally closed at around 106 degrees then opens at 239? Is my operation correct for this sensor/switch cause the one I have installed is open all the time until the car cooling heats to around midrange then closes around midrange resulting in my air conditioner finally coming on. Compressor does not work unless this switch is closed to supply 12vdc to comoressor. The ground for compressor is available which comes from ECU. Anyone familiar with the AC operation for a 1992 EAGLE TALON TSI? I just want to make sure I am on right track cause when I remove plug and short sensor my AC works. Sorry for all the posts about this but want to make sure I am not missing something. I already replaced the AC CONTROL MODULE under dash but that supplies my ground to relay which is good, missing my 12VDC.
