Okay so I had a funny smell everytime I was at a stop after driving on the road, smelt like a fluid burning or a wire melting. I was ignoring it for about 3 days and today my brakes went out on the road,.
I braked and the pedal felt very spongy and had no resistance. (I was like oh shit!!) So I drove carefully back home and saw that my drivers side caliaper was covered in black soot and was very hot to the touch, the passenger side was warm but not nearly as hot and was not covered in black. (The calipers are painted red BTW).
So I jacked up the car and took the tire off and unbolted the caliper. First thing I noticed is the rotor was grounded down with streak marks. The brake pads are worn down, the inner pad was cracked in half. So I checked the caliper itself and it is leaking brake fluid from the inside pistion and it wont open enough to put the pads back in on the hub.
So I guess my caliper froze up, and my pads and rotor are grounded up?
Funny thing is that this happened on my way home right after getting a passed inspection.
So questions are:
1.) Could anyone confirm my caliper froze up?
2.) Would I be okay getting a Duralast Reman / Brake Caliper - Front.
3.) Should I replace them both? ( Only the drivers side froze).
4.) I need to replace my pads and rotors is this a good deal for 94-99 Eclipse GST Brake Rotors Pads SS Lines Fluid , If not where else can I get cheap rotors and pads.
